We recently stayed for 2 nights at the Amargosa Opera House. Overall, the experience was terrible. This is a no-frills hotel – no TV, no clock, no phones. They say they offer a free continental breakfast, but this consists of the cheapest packaged pastries I have ever seen. This hotel may have had some charm in the past, but the... more

We stayed at the Amargosa hotel for just one night. Ok so it may not be the the plushest of places, but Rich (the manager/sheriff) told many storries about the hotel and surrounding area. It's well worth a visit and I bet you will never stay in another hotel with so much history. more

We'd been travelling for 9 hours, from Tahoe and down through the Valley for sunset. Rich, the Amargosa's Manager, Town Sherriff, Governor, occasional cafe waitress and who knows, maybe coroner too met us with the greatest warmth and humour, despite us having never been there before. We felt an instant affinity with the place. We got the pick of what... more

Stayed here for one night on a trip out to Death Valley from Vegas. Although it's not actually in Death Valley, it was well situated to drive into the park in the morning to visit Zabriskie Point and Dante's Peak. The hotel was built as part of a borax mining company town in the 20's and still has a lot... more

After a 2 week road trip of staying at comfortable but characterless hotels all over California, Nevada and Arizona, it was refreshing to stay somewhere with so much character. The staff were really friendly, it was comfortable and had all the other things you would want on top of that. I highly recommend it. more

Arrived here at dusk after visiting death valley, appeared somewhat of a ghost village-basically a few deserted buldings at a cross roads. Looked interesting so decided to stay rather than continue driving on in the night. The hotel and rooms very basic, no frills, but clean, staff were friendly and the place had a lot of charm, never stayed at... more

It's the pity that the Opera house is closed in that period. Room needs renovation. The surrounding is excellent and the hospitality is great. One funny fact: there is soft water in the Death Valley Junction (water hardness), after washing your hands with soap, it just felt like you gotta rinse that for hours! (ever the girl at reception didn't... more

This is the only place to stay for miles around, and is fine for a 1 night stop over. It has character, no mistake, but the rooms are rather shaby - but overall it was perfectly adequate for 1 night. The staff were friendly enough and breakfast was included, again it wasnt great but did the job. more

We did not stay in the hotel, but toured through it, then had lunch at the cafe. Lunch was good, the service and atmoshere were something we will pleasurably remember FOREVER!!! We took our kids for a vacation to Vegas and when asked when we got home what their favourite part of the trip was, they replied, " the ghost... more

We stayed one night to the Amargosa Opera House & Hotel on the road from Las Vegas to San Francisco via Death valley. Our intention was to be as near as possible the east entrance of Death Valley to benefit from morning temperature for our visit. We arrived at around 6pm. The reception was fine and only few minutes were... more
