This was my first hostel experience and it had everything that I wanted in a hotel/motel (expect for an available hairdryer ~ 5 am), but with a much more excellent, friendly atmosphere where one can meet like-minded individuals. This hostel is a must stay! I would also like to mention that I am mainly writing this review to acknowledge excellent... More

As far as hostels are concerned, the place is decent. Not spectacular, but also not below average. The mansion is old and one can tell, but the surroundings are amazing (do take the 20 minute walk from the bus stop, you're not going to regret it), and the service is amazing. Friendlinissimo. If you're looking for a low-budget stay and... More

the walk to this mansion in the countryside was so beautiful in October that one is reminded of the poem Ode to Autumn. The rustling of dried crimson leaves as you walk to this place is so enticing that one is tranpotrted to a scene in a classic descriptive novel centuries ago. The walk from the bus stop is about... Whilst this Hostel is located in beautiful surroundings as a sacrifice you are an hour away from central Philidelphia. That said, this Hostel is located in a very safe area - and the country side is particularly beautiful. Whilst this hostel is in an old country side manor house, the rooms themselves are very basic. The beds were not particularly... More

Upon check in, we were issued our sheets, and we rented towels. We had requested lower bunks, and we got single beds in a room that we shared with a vacationing couple from Europe. We arrived during the hostel's annual fundraiser, but that didn't interfere with our comfort. In fact, we were invited to stay, chat with the attendees, and... More

We stayed in the private room/ apartement. Then you have everything for yourself. Even a large kitchen, shower etc. Great to stay is something special like a mansion. You do need a car, we think to get to the bus, that takes you in 45 minutes to the centre of the city. But people also walked to the busstop. Do... More

This place was a great find and it was only 23$ per person per night. There was a large kitchen there with plenty storage and the hostel had all the usual extras like laundry, towels etc.. There was even a piano there and a small library! The rooms were lovely and really clean including the bathrooms. They had a selection... More

All the reviews prior to this describe the location and historic nature very well. The staff--Andrew and Nicole were sweet and helpful. They had lots of suggestions regarding sightseeing, eating, and shopping and it seemed like first hand knowledge. The bathrooms and kitchen were spotless. I don't understand some of the complaints about the rooms. It's not a hotel! My... More

Historic 1800's Mansion - so be prepared for lots of stairs - up to rooms & down to kitchen. A bit of a "musty" smell when I entered (although may have been enhanced by the thunderstorms that day) It's located deep in Fairmount Park, so having a car is strongly advised, although they do provide bikes. There is an economical... More

I stayed here for 10 nights in June/July 2010 as one of a group of 26. For our large group it offered good value and its situated in a lovely wooded area, but it's a long way from the centre of Philadelphia and the hostel wasn't brilliant. The location probably wouldn't be an issue with private transport, but we were... More
