As an American expat living in France and travelling in Europe for over twenty-five years, I can safely say I have never stayed in a hotel or b and b to rival the Gables for comfort, hospitality, affordability and sheer esthetic pleasure together. I have had two ten-day stays there in the last year (the first accompanied by my seventeen-year-old... more

The people that complain about this beautiful place should probably stay in a hotel and not a B&B. This is a large house that was once home to a well-to-do family. It has been faithfully restored and updated. But it is still a house and not built as a hotel. If you like B&Bs you will most likely really like... more

I stayed at the Gables for one night with my boyfriend, in The South Room, and I enjoyed it. We had a little trouble finding the place, as they don't have a big sign, but we enjoyed the walk (from Market Street till the house), as it was a nice and safe neighbourhood; I'm not very sure but the things... more

My husband and I had high hopes for the Gables B&B - rated as Philly's #1 B&B. Well, we were disappointed! We arrived on a Friday night, and were greeted by a woman who quickly shuffled us to our room, which was fine. The room was cold, but a space heater was available. I had specifically requested our room because... more

I have stayed here twice in the last four years while visiting my daughter at U Penn, and both times were excellent. The building is a large, Victorian house about a 10 - 15 minute walk from Penn. the neighborhood is residential and improving, and there are some good retaurants nearby. The accomodatoins are very comfortable, the breakfasts large and... more

This place is incredible. The owners, Warren and Don could not have been more pleasant and accomodating. They have owned the place for 15 years and have decorated it over time with loving care...beautiful antique by beautiful antique. The care and attention to detail shine through. I mean gorgeous stuff, nothing cheesy about this place. The wide front porch is... more

My daughter and I recently spent a weekend at this B and B. Our room was quiet and comfortable, restored and furnished, as are the public areas, with very good execution of Victorian taste. This is a very good location if you want to rely on public transportation, since the trolley line which becomes the City Hall subway goes directly... more

The Good - Beautiful antiques and architecture. Very clean and no musty smell. Priced affordably. Very relaxing home and nice wrap around front porch. The Bad: very noisy room air conditioner, bring ear plugs. Hallways not air conditioned which is where the computer's located so it was very hot. I arrived at breakfast 30 minutes before the posted "start" and... more

The Gables is a beautifully restored mansion with beautiful guest rooms, 2 large common areas and fabulous front porch. All areas are furnished with beautiful antiques. Our only regret is that we didn't have enough time to spend just relaxing at 'home.' The area is in a quaint, historic part of The Univ. of Penn. Restaurants are within walking distance,... more

I highly recommend the Gables as well as the Blue Willow Room. We enjoyed the charming table and chairs set in the sun drenched turret space as well as the decor and crisp linens. The gas fireplace also set the mood for a romantic retreat away from home. The Gables was a perfect fit for myself and my husband, who... more
