Peace, quiet, serenity and battlefield monuments right across the street...what more could a Civil War buff want? To top it all off, the Doubleday Inn is nicely furnished, supplies a very tasty breakfast, and has a wonderful greeter (Molly, their golden retriever). The Inn Keepers (Christine and Todd) were warm and helpful both via e-mail and in person. They helped... more

Stayed there Oct. 2008 for the first time and forgot to post my review; going back later this year so decided to catch up! Located right on the battlefield, quiet and peaceful, beautiful grounds, excellent hosts and we loved their dog Molly. Breakfasts were ample and delicious - the baked honey crisp apple recipe was to die for. Our hosts... more

My husband and I stayed at the Doubleday and had a wonderful time. The room (O'Neill) was meticulous, but a tad small. My husbands feet were hanging off the bed (he is 6ft) and the shower was way tight for both of us. For the price, I am not complaining, just maybe they should mention that this room is tiny... more

Doubleday Inn would be my first choice to stay in Gettysburg, right on the battlefield and away from the noise, hustle & bustle of town. It was rainy while we were there and it gave the fields an erie glow. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful but not obtrusive. We stayed in the Colonel Devin room and it looks exactly... more

The best thing about Doubleday Inn is the suberb location. It is right on the battleground as claimed and to be able to look out your room and see the monuments is both awe inspiring and thought provoking. The avenue is quiet, not a lot of traffic, which is a good thing. Todd and Christine were pleasant, helpful with information, reservations, recommendations, etc. but at... more

Recently stayed in the Robert E. Lee room here. It was a good size and a pleasant enough room, although it lacked a room-darkening shade or curtain. This turned out to be no problem the next morning, however. The bathroom was obviously built as an addition in a corner of the room, and might be a little too close for... more

There cannot be a better location in Gettysburg. It's on a quiet road a few miles out of town, right on the battlefield near the scene of some first day fighting. Very, very peaceful at night, in contrast to the downtown area (which we've experienced). The house itself is beautiful and stately, and our room was large and well-furnished, with... more

We went to Gettysburg for a 3 day stay, having gone for the first time last October, we couldn't wait to get back there. We stayed at another B&B for 2 days and at the Doubleday on our last day of our visit. We won't ever do it that way again. It will be The Doubleday for us from now... more

Like many of the folks who have recently reviewed the beautiful Doubleday Inn, I won't repeat all the wonderful things that were already said except to say that I would definitely recommend the inn to anyone who will listen. The "good" part of our visit is that Christine and Todd are genuinely nice people whom you can tell love what... more

My wife and i (from London) did a tour of all the eastern theatre US Civil War sites this spring. Gettysburg was far and away our favorite of all the sites we visited, thanks largely in part to our stay at the Doubleday Inn. Christine and Todd helped us plan our time in Gettysburg via email and thru the use... more
