We had a wonderful time with Motty & Lali during our 3 day stay in Alappuzha. We encountered the warmest, kindest hospitality, and we have some unforgettable memories from our stay (the dog naming party was brilliant fun, Jack!) Mottys obviously a respected resident of Allepey and his involvement & knowledge of the town was really useful. The rooms without... More

Motty and Lali are the perfect hosts and their homestay rooms are fantastic. We only stayed for 2 nights but felt 'home from home' thanks to brilliant hospitality and freely given knowledge of Alleppey, Kerela and beyond. Good advice on where to eat and a fantastic canoe trip organised for us through the backwaters that are unseen to the large... More

Alleppey is a charming and unpretentious town. The backwaters is amazing. Motty's homestay fits right in this picture. The charms of the homestay, like alleppey and its backwaters, cannot be separated from the people who run it - Motty and his wife Lali. They were very warm and hospitable to me. The room I had was lovely and very comfortable.... More

He's SUCH a poppet, and Lali (Mrs Motty) is a delight. Nothing is too much trouble - Lali will teach you to cook (she makes it look SO much easier than it is) and the rooms are lovely. They make you feel part of the family and will give you very good insider advice about the do-s and don't-s. If... More

A wonderful Homestay. Three rooms one of which is in the main house and two separate purpose built rooms in the garden. We stayed in the ground floor room in the garden and it was just delightful. A very spacious airy room with fans and aircon; a verandah at the front to relax on and the highlight, an open air... More

Very comfortable home stay! Old/antique furniture, air conditioned, clean and great location. What makes it really special is Motty and his wife. They are warm and engaging and full of useful information about the area. Let them suggest....and arrange houseboat trips and car with a driver for day trips. This is where I'm staying next trip....and the trip after! More

I came to India for the first time in January 2011. Friends suggested to stay at Motty's Homestay and that is what i did. I happy I did that. I stayed in India for two month and travelled around south India. I stayed at Motty's Homestay two times. First when I arrived and before I left. I think Motty's is... More

I travel to Alleppey once a year for work, and plan the timing of the trip around availability at Motty's. I have been to Alleppey on and off for some years, and stayed at most of its better hotels. Motty's is the only place I now stay at. The architecture and interiors give you a real sense of Kerelan high... More

We stayed in the downstairs room which has a verandah facing into the garden and an outside shower, loo and washbasin, with a small fish-pond, cleverly protected from the view of the neighbours, which was a new and relaxing experience for us, being so close to the sights and sounds of the garden. The room is air conditioned and comfortable,... More

We had a wonderful few days with Motty and Lali just after New Year - they were charming and friendly, cooked us amazing food every night (and the occasional tea-time treat), gave us a fab cooking lesson (we're still making aloo puri most nights), and helped to organise a great morning out to a family and village on the backwaters...
