We just loved this nice little hotel. Location is excellent along Toulouse, halfway between Bourbon and Royal. Everything (bars, famous restaurants, shops) is within a couple blocks. Although the property is not up to date in every way, staying here is like living in the French Quarter of New Orleans. I've visited the Maison de Ville a few times and always had a wonderful experience. Staying at the main house or at the Audubon Cottages is one of the best parts of my trip to New Orleans. Over the years my husband and I have stayed at Hotel Maison De Ville a number of times. I agree with the negative reviews. At first you may be enchanted with the veneer of elegance, so to speak, but when you scratch just below the surface, well, it's pretty grubby.
