A friend and I spent most of the day exploring Tikal, while leaving our packs at the Visitors' Center for 1 Quetzal an hour each with the plan of spending the night at Uaxactun. When we took the 3 PM chicken bus from Tikal, we knew that we would have little time to see just one portion of the Uaxactun ruins.
Following an interesting jungle chicken bus ride, much of it in Tikal Park, we got off at the Uaxactun comedor and walked up the hill on the road alongside the old air strip to Campamento El Chiclero.
We arranged for two rooms there and left our packs in them. The owner, Neria Herrera, offered to have supper ready for us when we got back and gave us three options. So we ordered pollo a la plancha, which turned out to be very tasty.
We saw the portion of the ruin site that is up toward the cemetery and might have been able to see part of the other sections, but we were a bit tired from Tikal and the thought of food awaiting us sounded better and...
