Our stay at the Rio Mopan Lodge was exceptional in many ways.
Not only is the location ideal for exploring Peten, but the lodge, which has been cut out of the jungle itself, sits right on the Guatemala-Belize border, with each room overlooking the Rio Mopan. Across this river is the village of Melchor.
If you are concerned about the basics......The rooms are artfully decorated, spacious, clean, with all the amenities.
The food, while reasonbly priced, was gourmet quality, and yes, you can relax with a beer, or glass of wine anytime.
Imagine sitting on the dining veranda, disscussing worldy issues with your truly knowlegable hosts, while the jungle and village of Melchor envelope you in their sounds. This experience alone is a treasured memory.
