My sister and I have just returned from a week at this wonderful hotel. We arrived on the 24th February for a weeks skiing. From arrival to departure we were looked after so well. Our rooms were in the lower floor and not the newer rooms, but they were immaculate, absolutely spotless . Beds and pillows so comfortable. On arrival one of the radiators in the room wasn’t working and we felt quite chilly ( an early start and tiredness didn’t help) within 10 minutes Emily bought a heater to our room which was extremely effective. The shower was brilliant, in fact one of the best most powerful showers I’ve used. All the staff were so friendly from reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff, a real credit to the hotel. Emily went around the restaurant every evening to enquire about the guests day and took a real interest in all. The food was wonderful. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and so much choice and set us up for the day. The evening meal was selected at breakfast with a choice of 3 main meals, soup, salad and dessert. Presentation was amazing. If this is a gushing review I apologise, but I really feel that it is deserved. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and feel that the only thing that would have added to our stay would have been more snow, but sadly this is not in the control of the Sonnschein Hotel, however feel that they would if they could!

We just returned from our ski holiday last week. The weather sadly was a mixed bag with warm temperatures and slushy slopes until Friday when it finally snowed buckets. Sonnschein is a lovely hotel, the family room we had was perfect for a family of four with two kids age 14 and 12. It was also surprisingly quiet at night, especially considering it was top season. The food was very nice and our usually fussy kids ate every meal. I would recommend to hire a ski locker at one of the renting shops, which is what we did. I would not have fancied the walk to the slopes and back in ski boots with skis and sticks. The staff at the hotel are lovely. They are super helpful and the rooms were spotless. Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Hire a ski locker (€48 for the week for 4 pairs of skis and boots at Blachfelder).

We stayed here for a week (2 adults and 2 children: 12 and 9) to ski for half term; I’d read some mixed reviews so was dubious, but am relieved to say the concerns were unwarranted. The hotel was great, staff amazing- Emily came and chatted to us at the dinner table every evening - staff in the restaurant were friendly and room service very good. We were happy with the food, 3 options plus a children’s option (although our 2 mainly chose from the adults menu); soups were good, vegetarian options very good and food was tasty. Only negative was that they don’t offer tap water and a bottle is eur5.90, as we discovered when we got our bar bill at the end of the week. The room (we were in the new part but an accessible room so possibly a bit bigger than usual) was nice - big bathroom with bath and shower and plenty of hot water, the beds were comfy - even the sofa bed - and spacious and we had a door leading outside to a wooden swing (we were on the ground floor). It was nice to stand out in the air. Room possibly a little too warm for me, but we opened the window at night, which was perfect. The additional facilities were great: pool, table tennis, darts and a play room for little ones, plus a gym and 2 swimming pools. My only criticism of the whole hotel was that the pool for children was cold whereas the adult pool was warm. To be fair, it didn’t stop lots of children going in their pool but it was too cold for me and we did end up taking them into the adults pool when there were other children in there (sorry Emily!) but made sure they were calm and respectful of other adults who wanted to swim. The hotel in in a smallish village and the walk to the meeting point for ski school and the gondola took 10mins (if walking slowly), we didn’t have much snow, so the roads were clear therefore it would take longer in deep snow with young children. I strongly advise leaving boots and skis at the ski hire shop next to the carpark by the gondola - eur 3 per day per person and boots are dried overnight. So much easier walking to the slopes without ski boots. The ladies in the shop by Hotel Austria were lovely and very helpful when my husband and I ended up needed new goggles and helmets (having left them inside our board bags for 12 years!). Otherwise there are very few shops in the village but there is a Spar to stock up on essentials if needed. In summary, good food, lovely staff and good location, would recommend.

We had been to niederau before, 10 years ago & had stayed in a pension. This hotel was brilliant. We loved the staff. Manu , (I hope i've spelt his name correctly), behind the bar was one of the nicest people you could meet. The food was well cooked, all the soups were amazing. Great selection at breakfast. The facilities although we didn't use them all were of what you would expect of a 4 star hotel. This Hotel was brilliant for disabled travellers & those with special needs. It was a pleasure to witness these people having such an amazing time. Lots of Hot water & a bath which was a delight after a hard day on the slopes. Room service was daily if required. Any downsides I hear you asking? Only one & a small one. Although only 3 or 5 hundred metres walk to the main M1 gondola, in ski boots & carrying skis & poles was made harder by the terrain. Down then up a gradient road. My advice would be to rent a ski locker near to the gondola. So would we stay here again? Undoubted!

I have reviewed before but its been 4 years since I visited and a few things have changed. Still the same welcome, still the same warm and friendly, and traditional Austrian feel, but some parts modernised, like the restaurant. Travelled with a small-ish (13 people) disability skiing group who generally found the rooms accessible. Staff friendly and helpful, as ever!

We have just arrived back from our first family ski holiday and our stay at Hotel Sonnschein. We had THE most wonderful time and are already itching to rebook! We booked our holiday last minute through Inghams and having never down a trip like this before we weren’t to sure what to expect. It was myself, my husband, my mum and our two boys aged 6 and 9. Our welcome to hotel Sonnschein was extremely warm where we were shown around the main facilities. We were allocated a table for the duration of our stay and each morning at breakfast there was the menu choices to select for the evening meal. Breakfast had a vast selection and was always well stocked. Having read previous reviews, the evening meals was the only part of the trip we were hesitant about but we found the food to be well varied and we thoroughly enjoyed every meal! Our rooms in the old wing were huge and well maintained. They were cleaned every day and little treats of mini sweets left every now again (we even got a Christmas tree drawing on Christmas Day 🎄). The beds are a little on the soft side and personal preference I would have preferred a firmer mattress but they were still very comfortable. We were on the top floor and had a superb view across the Niederau valley - it was especially magical at nighttime. The hotel indoor temperature runs on the warmer side so I’d suggest packing lighter clothing for when you’re in and around the hotel and save the woolly jumpers for when you explore the villages. The pool facilities are perfect and very welcomed after a day on the slopes. There are two indoor pools where one is for adults only and the other is family friendly. This was great for us as we didn’t feel we had to constantly keep telling our excitable boys to be quiet 😂 The staff at Sonnschein were fantastic. Every single member of the hotel were friendly and extremely eager to make sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Emily and Herbert (the hotel owners and hosts) make an extra special effort during evening meal times to rotate around the tables to check in on their guests and make sure that they are having a great time and have everything they need. Niederau itself is a perfect place for families and those starting out on the skiing adventures. The local ski school was fantastic, there’s a good mixture of slopes for all different abilities and the ski equipment hire in the local area is super easy and uncomplicated. Everyone is very friendly and there’s a genuine feeling of community. Hotel Sonnschein really did feel like a home away from home and we’d highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Sonnschein hotel in Niederau, for three nights on our return from a cruise on the river Danube (Shearings). The hotel was excellent, rooms were enormous. Beds were comfortable. Buffet breakfast was good, limited hot food, sausage and eggs, however pancakes were good. Dinner was adequate. soup, excellent salad buffet, main course and dessert. We opted out of excursions, instead we took a ride on local bus, 770, to Aufach and Worgl. The cable car at the end of the line was wonderful. Views were superb. Worgl was OK but main street was being repaved. Note that bus is free to guests at hotel, pass available on request at reception.

Hotel Sonnschein was the base for our coach holiday to the Tyrol. A large and very nicely presented hotel on the edge of the town. It was very clean, with lots of floral decoration on the outside of the hotel. The staff were all very helpful and hardworking, and service with a smile. Our room (316) was on the top floor and looked over the back of the hotel with nice views. A lovely balcony with a table and two chairs. Considering it was a coach holiday, food was tasty and nicely presented. Usually started with soup, then self-service salad bar, main course and a light dessert. Maybe an arrangement with the tour company, but there was no table water provided - you had to purchase it. Good waiting staff. Entertainment was only provided on our last evening, but there was a weekly Tyrolean music night in the village on the Wednesday, and we found a chap entertaining in a bar on the Thursday a short walk from the hotel. Because of the itinerary, we did not have time to use the free cable car in the village. Only downside was a lack of a drinks list in the bar - apart from a small card mentioning 5 or 6 drinks/cocktails. Aperol Spritz was pricey - nearly 9 euros, but the one advertised was with white wine which was 7.5 euros (I think) but not so nice. Overall, a really nice stay at the hotel, and thank you to the chambermaid (if I'm allowed to call them that), for a cruise ship style presentation to the beds being made up each day. A gratuity well spent!

We had a lovely stay at the hotel Sonnshein! The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The food was delicious and the staff made certain I had something that covered my dietary needs even though we were all on a set menu as a group booking. We especially loved Katrina in the bar who was really cheerful and helpful. Our room was comfortable and our bed was huge! We enjoyed the view from our window and were satisfied with the facilities. If we were returning to the Tyrol, we would definitely consider returning to Hotel Sonnshein.
