My partner and I went to the small village of Shipka for a night and having booked no accomodation, decided to take a chance when we got there.
There was a sign for the hotel in the centre where the bus dropped us off and we walked 200meters up a small hill and went into the hotel.
They didn't have any rooms for the night but instead let us stay in an apartment next door that they owned. It was clean and comfortable and had wonderful views over the village and the mountains behind as well.
The manager of the hotel was very welcoming and hospitable. He stayed and talked with us for a while and told us about the history of the area, about the Thracianempire and the Thracian tombs and findings around the village, which was lovely.
The next day we went back to the hotel in the morning and were served breakfast and waited on hand and foot by the manger.
