This hotel was at the end of downtown Kona, which is a fairly good location. It has a nice sunset view from the pool. There is also a bar and a restaurant if you want. Hotel is a little dated and needs some upgrades, but overall it was a good value and served it's purpose. more

This was a very good value. We stayed in the Alii tower- supposedly recently renovated. The room was large enough for 2 adults and 2 school aged kids without feeling cramped. The balcony was large enough for all 4 of us to sit and relax at night & listen to the waves. There was a good railing/buffer so the kids... more

Some of the reviews and guidebooks we read said Royal Kona needed updating but we didn't find any out-and-out terrible reviews. It was one of several hotels to choose from on a package deal we purchased, so we picked it for the price and location. But we would agree that some things are a little rough around the edges. Advice,... more

This hotel was great. It's pretty big but is separated into 3 towers so it's not so busy. Great offer of bars and food, but we mainly went to surrounding restaurants and bars as there are a lot within a minute or two. We were not in the main tower. Rooms are a little dated, but clean fresh and tidy.... more

We had not been to the Big Island before and had no idea where to stay. I was in research overdrive when I called an Hawaiian travel agent to help out. They recommended the Royal Kona Resort. When I read the reviews I was very nervous about what we would be getting. When we arrived after staying at a 5*... more

OK - you are going to read several reviews of the resort some good, some bad. I take a lot of pride in giving you the truth of the experience. The resort is excellent, especially if you stay in the Alii Tower (recommend this - as this is the recently renovated side). The hotel interior is beautiful and the scenic... more

We recently stayed here for the second year in a row during the Ironman Triahtlon. Both stays have been great and the staff are always helpful and happy. The location of this resort is perfect for attending the Ironman due to its proximity to the event. It is within waling distance to the Expo, the start of the swim and... more

This is a tough one to review - the location within walking distance of all that Kona has to offer is great - the "Mai Tai Bar" has good drinks at good prices with an unbeatable view of the bay. "Don the Beachcomber" restaraunt has decent enough food again with the great view. All the service people we dealt with... more

The booking was made through bidding on Priceline. So, I didn't know what I would get as a "3-star" hotel. Royal Kona Resort could be seen as soon as we arrived to Kona. This was the highest hotel there and we believe probably the best. There was not a single problem we encountered while staying there for 5 nights. Of... more

Moved here after leaving another hotel whose A/C wasnt adequate and was further out of town. Loved this place, great atmosphere, great locaation on the edge of town, within easy walking distance of most of the town. Staff was friendly, service was good. Stayed in the Alii tower ocean front room. Amazing views, dolphins playing in the 'bay' in front... more
