I stayed at the Kona Reef in September 2008 for a week as part of a Raintree Vacation Club (i.e. Timeshare) booking. There is an office operated by Club Regina that handles most timeshare bookings, and they oversee about 15-18 rooms on-site. There is a separate office used for traditional hotel bookings. I stayed in unit E-3 (ground floor), and... more

We stayed at the Kona Reef for 2 weeks. Our unit F-12 was average. We had a great view of the ocean and a little beach area off to the side of the resort. The bedroom was nice. Enough closet space and a dresser. The bed was a little too hard for my comfort. The kitchen and living room were... more

I guess it must be true that it depends on what unit you're staying in. I've read some good reviews and some bad of the Kona Reef. We just returned from our vacation and staying in D-22 was awesome. Obviously, the owners take great care of this place. It's a three bedroom unit. We had a group of six and... more

Each unit is individually owned. So what you get all depends on which unit you stay in. Our first night was in 1A and it was pretty bad. There was no privacy and it was dirty. It is next to a little public beach and there are people walking by your unit 24 hours a day. The A/C was so... more

This was our third time staying here. We stayed in unit D36. The unit was well maintained by the owner. Every night we went to sleep with the sound of the Pacific waves crashing on to the rocks below our room. Our mornings would start off by drinking a cup of coffee on the lani and watch the para sailors,... more

We booked here because we thought it best met our criteria; - Price (we paid $125/n) - atmosphere, we had a full view of a small beach and then the ocean 50 feet away). We could hear the waves day and night. - location, easy walking distance to center of town - accessibility, within 5 minutes on the major n/s... more

We just spent a week in B23. It is on the south side, so it is ocean front on the side! It gets road noise from Ali'i Drive, but I would stay in it again. The unit was clean, well maintained and well equipped. The only thing I miss versus 20 trips to Kihei, Maui is 3-mile walks on the... more

We went to Hawaii between christmas and new year's eve. Kona reef was overbooked and no one was there in office. We were send to Kona Makai hotel by security guard. This place was 2 miles farther away and there was no aid service so we had to do laundrt and all cleaning before checking out. No one was there... more

We have stayed in many different units at the Kona Reef over the last 15-20 years we've been going there. People who are unhappy with this property generally are those who are expecting a fancy resort or a boutique hotel. The Kona Reef is neither of those things. It's a comfortable condo complex that is RIGHT ON the ocean. No... more
