I live in Anchorage and spent months trying to plan the "perfect" southcentral Alaska trip for my parents (young seniors), sister and brother-in-law (30-somethings) niece and nephew (3 and 5), and myself, spouse and teenage stepdaughter. This B&B looked great online for our trip to Seward, and it did not disappoint. We spent a lovely two days here. more

My husband was on leave from Afganastan and the Sourdough was such a lovely place to stay. The workmanship in this 3 bedroom cabin is incredible! It was very clean, comfortable and the breakfast was FANTASTIC! Sue was very helpful with things to do and a delight to have prepare our breakfast along with great conversation. I would highly recommend... more

My family stayed in rooms 1 & 3 in mid-July, 2009...This was a very clean, beautiful, log-type home B&B that has been beautifully crafted by the owner who is a carpenter. He had our breakfast ready every morning, and I must say (like everyone else), the bacon, pancakes and homemade jam was wonderful. He made good recommendations of places to... more

In general, we were very happy with this B&B. The hosts, who don't live in the same building, were available if we needed anything. Pre and post trip communication was excellent. The woodwork, inside and out, is amazing to look at. The sourdough pancakes (the main part of breakfast) were wonderful, as was the bacon (not your usual B&B bacon).... more

We stayed here the week after July 4th for 2 nights. The B&B sits in a wooded area just 5 minutes outside of Seward just off the road to Exit Glacier Nat'l Park. The owner, Richard, hand-built his B&B - literally. The workmanship alone is worth the visit with murals in the wood siding, on the entrance door, and elsewhere.... more

We stayed 2 nights at the Sourdough Sunrise in June '09. We were in Seward to visit the Kenai Fjords National Park. The rooms w/ private baths, kitchen, small area with m'wave & frig are in a separate building built by the owner, Richard. His handiwork throughout the place is awesome. The sourdough pancakes and bacon breakfasts were filling and... more

We stayed 2 nights at Sourdough Sunrise and after reading all the rave reviews were not as impressed. The craftmanship of the rooms / building are exceptional and it was very clean. The location is perfect for visiting Seward and the owner was warm and friendly. However, compared with other B & Bs we have visited in AK and elsewhere,... more

We stayed 2 nights at the Sourdough Sunrise and of the places we stayed at as we traveled around Alaska, this was the second best place we stayed at. I need to explain that the best place we stayed at was a resort hotel and therefore not really appropriate to compare the two places. What we really liked about the... more

We drove up the driveway and saw our names on the whiteboard, a very nice touch. We had the entire guest house to ourselves. We stayed in #3 for two nights. The breakfast of sour dough pancakes, bacon and fruit were tasty. It was off-season but we went on the Renown Wildlife Tour from the marina. It was beautiful and... more

I found Richard's site on the internet and emailed him on a sunday afternoon. Got an email back within half an hour confirming our accommodations for our spontaneous Seward vacation. It was perfect. We drove up and saw our names on the dry erase board welcoming us. The room was just as pictured in the website and the house was... more
