When I came to stay here, I thought I would meet at least some weird, creepy people, and that every little extra would cost me (like taking a shower.). But the place is very laid back. One thing they don't tell you is that, while there is free breakfast and free dinner on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, there is also... more
We stayed in a private double room for three nights in the Green Tortoise and found it well worth the money. I found the staff generally helpful although some could do with cheering up. The kitchen had all the equipment you would need, and the free internet PCs came in very handy, although were frequently busy forcing us to wait.... more
Great way to travel cheap without sacrificing! Negative reviews by others on TripAdvisor almost convinced me to stay away from the Green Tortoise. That would have been a huge mistake. Location: Great! directly across the street from Pike Place Market (and from the first Starbucks), about two blocks from underground bus terminal, in the heart of Seattle. Rooms: Bunk beds... more
I stayed in a four bed girls-only dorm at this hostel in May last year. The hostel is in a great location - right by Pike Place and near the harbour. The shower rooms were very clean and obviously only recently refurbished. The toliets and shower rooms were quite far apart on our floor which wasn't ideal but not too... more
Atmosphere,Facilities,Breakfast and "Shared double" were nice. Rate was higher than others. more
I've stayed in the GT on several occassions for as short as a few days to as long as three months. I'm a Tom Waits fan so the wierd vagrant, hippie, party crowd doesn't bother me at all. In fact I like it. I've met college students, pastors, liers, theives, writers, poets, career criminals on parole and everyone in between... more
A dingy dirty place with very little ventilation. The Green Tortise was run down and it seemed like the owner was trying to scrimp all the profit he could. Most of the bathrooms had no shower or a toilet. This made it a pain since if you were taking a shower you had to go to another bathroom to use... more
It is difficult trying to tell the difference between the staff and other travelors, because the staff is negligent, particularly the night staff. What got me was after returning home from a club, absolutely exhausted. I felt bass rumbling my bed. My ear plugs could not shut out the loud rap that was playing at the front desk. At about... more
This is not a good a hostel as is proclaimed. I think previous years reviews went to their heads and they took their foot off the pedal. Staff are too cool and abrupt and the place has a cold atmosphere and is not so clean... so give it a shot for one night stay. arrive late leave early and all... more
