Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I had a free pass for the night from Marriot that we had to burn before the end of the year. We used the pass at the West Lake Marriot. Parking was 40 dollars for one night. The garage had no sign directing you to the elevators. The pass to get in and out of the garage was inaccurate. We had an alley view, and the room was small and cold feeling. Although we had a free pass, they would have to pay me to stay there again. The staff was great! Vert polite and professional.

Hotel is in a great location, overlooking Lake Union and the 'beach' area, with easy access to many of the downtown sights. Self-parking is easy and underground. The reception and check-in experience is typically Marriot efficiency and friendliness and the room we had was great. Spacious, comfortable bed and modern bathroom facilities with a decent A/C. While we were there, we booked a "Coffee tour" through the Bonvoy app and this was an awful experience. The app took payment and provided a link to a voucher - that did not work. When we called the 'support desk', they saw the same problem and had no solution to offer, other than they would 'apply' for a refund. We managed to contact the tour provider ourselves, confirmed the payment and had a great tour - no thanks to Marriot Bonvoy. Secondly, when it came to breakfast, they have one of these 'choose your menu items, pay & then sit' arrangements. Good for hotel process and costs but less good for customers IMHO. Unfortunately, the queue was long and being processed very slowly, so we left to eat elsewhere. Can't really blame the hotel for the Bonvoy issues and, breakfast aparet, we enjoyed our stay.

No Microwave in the room but will sell you food that needs to be microwaved. I spent 18 dollars for a small pack of Pringles a DR Pepper and a Stouffers frozen dinner. Was then told there are Microwaves on the 5th and 3rd floor next to the ice machines. A new Microwave is about 40 bucks. No USB ports in rooms. No lobby coffee, but you buy Starbucks from the hotel. 50 bucks to park. My truck needed to be parked in the oversized area. Windows were broken and stole my work boots and phone chargers. This Hotel is right across the street from a homeless village. You cannot see it from the street. They have a huge theft problem and are too cheap to hire security. This is far from a cheap hotel. I will not be returning to Seattle. I think I am done with hotels too. Even the expensive hotels have gone on the cheap. I have much better luck with VRBO.

Response from Sara Steffenson, Owner at Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union
Responded 9 Aug 2023
Dear L1296FDjohnk, I want to start off by saying thank you for choosing to stay with us, and I'm really sorry to hear about any inconveniences you experienced while at our hotel. I will pass the feedback about the market item pricing along to our front desk management team and see if there's anything they can do about that. As for the microwaves, I do apologize that we don't have one in every room. We do have one placed in the market, to make it easier for guests to warm up frozen items right after they purchase them, and then bring them up to the room with them. The neighborhood of homes across the street from our hotel is a transitional housing development, used to help people transition into better homes and help them find later housing and employment opportunities. It has actually been a great addition to the area in the past few years since it was built, and we have not experienced any issues from it. Thank you again for all your feedback, as we can use all of it to better our service and our guests' experiences.

I stayed one night at the Courtyard by Marriott Lake Union. The location is convenient and with the lake across the street, it's very pleasant. As with most places in a city parking will set you back $40 per day - at least this is what they tell you on check in. Maybe I missed it but I failed to hear the additional $9.95 in taxes that would be added to that $40. Breakfast in the Bistro is not included and expensive as well. Comfortable place to sleep, just be sure to ask questions so you are not surprised by the charges.

Dear triciastravels75, Thank you for staying with us, and I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed the location of the hotel! It's definitely nice to be right across from the lake, especially during the summertime. As for the parking charges, I do apologize if we were not communicative about the parking tax that does get added on. I will get with my team about making sure we are always informing our guests about this. Thank you for the feedback, as it does allow us to better our service! I hope the other aspects of your stay were enjoyable!

Our room was the best thing that came our way after a long tense day traveling. We were just looking for a comfortable place to sleep before we boarded a cruise ship. The price was terrific for the quality and service we received. The bathroom was modern and clean. The bed, better than home. The room was large and bright. More than we expected. We will be back.

Seyed (sorry, not sure on spelling) and Levi were so helpful!! I probably would've given this place 5 stars except for the customer service when we first go there. I called first thing in the morning to let them know our flight was coming in late. When I got there, check-in was easy, people were friendly, but I got to our room, and our "lake view" room which we were paying a pretty penny for was a view of a big sign on the other side of the hotel. Before we unpacked, I went down and told them that we were paying for a lake view, and we wanted a lake view... (I did say it nicer than that, but pretty much what I meant). The lady looked at all the rooms, and they were completely booked, according to her, but I could talk to someone in the morning to get t changed. I went back to our room and we fell asleep, so truthfully, didn't notice the view anyway, but couldn't relax and unpack or anything. The next morning, I got down bright and early as I didn't want them to give a room away, and Levi, very nice young man, told me that there were plenty of rooms available right then!! Hmmmm... so why couldn't we get into a room last night? He told me to get our stuff, and come back down as our hotel keys wouldn't work after he switched us over and we had the room of our dreams! It was exactly what we had expected! Thank you Levi!! Seyed, again sorry for the spelling, was also wonderful and so kind. He helped m e get an early morning cup of coffee and made sure all was well in my world! Thank you! The hotel was clean, the food was good, and the location was perfection!! I just wish the beginning of our stay was smoother. I don't like to say this, but considering how much we stay at Marriotts, it would be nice to get that noticed sometimes to make things smoother faster.

The hotel is great, rooms are nice, central to all Seattle Downtown. My review is for the staff. They were kind while I was there, in the bar/front desk. But Raul B. went way beyond. I noticed 3 weeks later that I had left my favorite blazer in the room. I called the hotel, and Raul found the jacket, and a shirt or two, and they had been keeping it secure. They packaged it up, and sent it to me. What a terrific guy. I recommend this hotel!
