After cruising US1/301 checking out the old motels, I settled on this place. I love old motels, but a lot of the Richmond area ones are too far gone for me to risk it. At first, I wasn't sure about this place, but I'm glad I stayed here.
This motel was built in the early '50s, and was really fancy for the time. My room was enormous, and I paid a whopping $40. It was very clean, and the carpet was practically brand-new. It had also been repainted recently. The bathroom was a great aqua green tile with salmon fixtures, and the towels were actually a grade above the scratchy dishrags most older places give you. My one quibble is that the shower head is mounted at about shoulder height. The bed was also a cut above what I had any right to expect for $40. It even had sheets that looked like they had been bought in a store, and not from a hospital.
US 1/301 is a pretty busy highway, but this place is set back about 50 yards from the road. I had no trouble...
