Got a fantastic last minute price on 1 nights B&B £65 for 4 people! Agree that it is a little dusty, and bathrooms could do with updating, but in view of the age of the property we thought it was pretty good. Nice to stay somewhere different, plenty of character and individuality here. We had room 12 which was plenty... more

we arrived on the tues, its steeped in history so if you take that into consideration £160 for a double room with breakfast for 4 nights is a bargain. The breakfast was fine and the real ale in the bar was spot on.The bedroom was a little compact but cleaned every morning. You get what you pay for and this was worth it more

This is a wonderful old hotel in a very picturesque area of the cotswolds. The room we stayed in was full of character and overlooked the front of the building through old mullioned windows. However, the carpet had not seen a vacuum cleaner for some time and was very dusty, especially in the bathroom, where spiders webs could be found... more

We stayed here for 2 nights in room 7, bedroom as I expected for a building this age, could have done with a good dust but otherwise ok, bathroom very dated which wouldn't be a problem if it were clean, orange & black mold on the tiles, rest of bathroom not up to any sort of cleanliness standard. Food was... more

We arrived in the evening after a long drive and on first appearances the exterior had lots of charm and character (even though it edges onto a busy road). The bedroom ( room no. 7) was very dissapointing. The bathroom was very dated and gruby. The tiles around the bath/grouting was covered in black mould. The sink taps had old... more

Stayed for two nights for the Cheltenham Festival. Room 12 very spacious with all facilities you would expect. Staff very friendly from Steve the manager , waitresses to the housekeeper. It was the first time I have had the same evening meal two nights running (Chicken with mushroom duxelle) it was that good. Excellent choice for evening meal and breakfast... more

The building has terrific character with cosy log fires in the entrance hall and bar. There is a sheltered enclosed courtyard garden which is a real sun trap in the Summe The food was very good and the staff very attentive and friendly. The bedroom was clean, with plenty of fresh towels. Have stayed before and would again. more

7 Mar 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed here for 3 nights with friends. It is an amazing building, apparently one of the 10 oldest inns in England! The Monk's Bar was cozy, friendly and welcoming and the house wine was far above your average house wine, but for the same price! The staff were wonderful, and the food was excellent, and for a reasonable price,... more

This really is a find. A beautiful old inn, with excellent food and staff who couldn't do enough to help. The locals were also charming and it is good to see a vibrant local pub in this lovely village. Yes the bathroom was in need of updating, but it is an old building and the room itself was lovely so... more

I got back yesterday from the Cotswolds. The Shaven Crown is by far the friendliest hotel I have stayed in. The food and service were excellent and served with a genuine smile.... In the evening, I relaxed by the warm fire place listening to the "tickling noise" of the burning wood. I recommend anyone to experience the hospitality of The... more
