So, this was my 10th time or so staying here. Always before and after a climbe of Rainier. It is a very convenient staging area and a great luxury after being on the mountain a few days. The beds are comfortable, always clean, nice coffee shop out front and a great all around historical feel. This is not the Ritz... More

This place is all about location - near Mt Rainier. It was raining when we arrived and the room was cold, but because it was small, it got heated up quickly. The downside was a short bed and that there was only a small heating fan (built in wall) which made noise throughout the night.

Compared to what you'd pay for a cabin or a trendy lodge, it's a decent deal. Especially since they have a hot tub, which was much appreciated after a full day of snowshoeing. But don't expect too much comfort. The beds are extraordinarily soft and lumpy and the walls are thin enough to hear conversations next door.

We were initially hesitant about booking Whittaker's because it is fairly basic, but then the well known Hotels in the National Park are a lot more money, and Whittaker's has plenty of character, an interesting history and it gets you into the feel of the mountain; the Motel/Bunkhouse is used a lot by people making the ascent. Ok our room,... More

Stayed three nights before and after climbing Mt. Rainier. The motel is very clean and comfortable, but dated. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Flower pots everywhere give it a nice look. It's without modern conveniences of TV and phones in the room. Relax, decompress and bring good reading material. Cell service is non-existent for ATT users, but Verizon... More

Over the years I have had the chance to stay in many a motel. Let me tell you THIS place is top notch. I had to take a crew of 4 to the area for work and found this little sweetheart in the woods. The owner was very nice the little gal in the cafe was nice the room was... More

I stayed here in June and booked a room with full size bed and bathroom. Note - they don't have TV's, phones or radio's in the rooms. They do provide table fans. The room was stark - however I found it to be clean. I was in the area for an expedition to climb Mt Ranier and stayed here. For... More

Don't expect much when staying here...it's bare bones. Reception doubles as an ice cream stand (quite popular!) so check-in was a bit rough as there was a line out the door for a cone. Rooms are about as basic as you can get...a bed and a bathroom. No table to sit at...if you're in the room your only option is... More

My climbing partner and I stayed here before our Mt Rainier summit climb. The place has a lot of history behind it, and with the old climbing decor, you feel as if your following the footsteps of climbers of years gone by. We loved the coffee from the little ice cream/coffee shop. There is no telephone or tv in your... More

We spent two nights in unit 24, 2 queens and a private bath. While there were not many frills, this was a terrific place to stay. It was very clean and comfortable. Having read reviews, we brought our own pillows and, while beds were firm, they were comfortable, not lumpy or sagging. Coffee shop in bldg. that serves great coffee... More
