We had booked The Abington Hotel two months ago and our stay lasted 15 minutes time enough for us to find the place locked up and for a local to look at us with pity in his eyes and inform us that it had closed some weeks ago. We were not contacted to inform us of the situation. When I then phone Cancelon the rep promised to phone me straight back but did not do so. It took another lengthy call for us to establish the situation at which time Cancelon offered an alternative booking which I declined fearing that we might be put into another hotel on its last legs! We made our own arrangements elsewhere and can strongly recommend the Kirkstone Hotel in Biggar ! We cannot comment on ‘Days Inn by Wyndham’ but hope its better than Abington Hotel!

We were visiting/passing through Abington late morning and noticed a number of people eating in the dining area. The hotel looked decent so when we were passing back through a couple of hours later we stopped to have lunch. The doors were locked. The thing we found strange was that there was a woman who looked as though she may have been a receptionist standing beside the car park looking at us trying to get in and she never said a word to us. She watched us get back into the car and drive right down the road! We left hungry and disappointed and had to drive for another while before we found somewhere else. We'll give it a miss in future.

Only went there for a meal, their website made it look worth visit for meal as we traveled south. Turned up at 7.00pm on a Friday night in July - we did 'phone but no answer - to find it all closed. Visited shop/cafe opposite to find out if hotel had closed unexpectedly to be told it only opens for bus tours owned by owner of the hotel. Lady in shop said this happened a lot, in fact someone had called in as they had booked a room and received confirmation. When they turned up the hotel was closed, so owner of shop had to find them b&b for night. So as the hotel appears to keep strange opening hours, we were not impressed.

I'd like to be giving a good review to this place but I don't have the opportunity. Months ago, I approached the hotel in order to host our charity bike ride as we headed north to Glasgow. The manager said that would be brilliant and even offered to contribute something when we stopped there. I tried to confirm by email in May, and got a reply that details could be sorted nearer the time. So in late June, we phoned to firm up on details. We were told that the owner was on holiday but would be back at the end of the week. When we phoned back, there was no answer on countless occasions and the email address was no longer recognised. We drove up to the place in the middle of the day midweek in July to find the place completely locked and no indication as to why. Fortunately the village store across the road came to our rescue for our 20 cyclists. It seemed quite disrespectful to just shut up shop with no explanation, when we'd made every effort to plan in advance and give the place some business. Avoid. A booking here seems to be Russian roulette as to whether it'll actually be open when you get there!…

I booked ahead a room for the night. Arrived to find hotel was completely dark and looked closed for season. Had to use a call box by the door, using my phone torch to see, in order to speak to the desk clerk, who asked me what room I was in. "I don't know, I've just arrived." He buzzed me in, asked my name, handed me a key, and turned to go back to his office. I wandered upstairs, and found my room, completely freezing and with no working lights. The clerk had disappeared; I had to go back outside and use the call box again. We met again at the desk, and he (only then) informed me I had to insert the key chain fob in a slot in order to get the lights to work. I then had to go through similar process to complain about the internet not working, and the room took at hour or more to get above meat-locker temperatures. The manager's response to my comment that this wasn't a very nice arrangement? "Morning will come soon enough."…

Imagine Fawlty Towers without the charm of Manuel, Polly, a chef, (all laid off, I guess)or even any other guests!!! We arrived (with reservations) in a cold rain to find the door locked!! After ringing the bell for some time a nice gentleman (a friend of the owner) came to the door and let us in. He helped us upstairs with our bags, To a small room with two twin beds. Told there was no heat in other rooms!! We had ordered a "family room" with a twin and a double beds. We booked here specifically because it was located near the Abington Village Hall, the venue for a performance by Carrie Rodriguez, which was to start at 7pm. Dinner supposedly started at 6, so we went downstairs and were informed that they had some roast beef. We ordered that, some tomato soup and a bottle of wine. Another guest opened the wing for us (and helped himself to a glass from our bottle). The soup was served 40 minutes later, the meal arrived at 6:50 - ten minutes before the performance! It consisted if scraps of overcooked roast beef, three kinds of potatoes, peas, and half decent cauliflower with a white sauce. We bolted the edible parts and left. Locked out again at night for 7 minutes when we returned. Needless to say, we will NEVER be back!!!…

We stayed in this hotel because we were with a coach trip with NEWMARKET and looking at reviews before we went we were worried whether they were ok dealing with Coeliac. Newmarket told us they had informed them, we also spent 2 days trying to phone them personally, but they did not answer the phone. Whilst we stayed there we realised why because nobody was ever in the recept6ion area and the phone did not reconnect to someones mobile so they could deal with enquires. Evening meal, there was no Gluten free bread, Chef (who did his best) came out with large carton to ask it the ingredience were alright for Gluten free. When we spoke to Manager he was stressed because the coach company had not given him our meal orders earlier, then he told us he was not used to dealing with Coeliac and walked away!!. The next day still no Gluten free bread but luckily enough the morning staff were excellent, so was the breakfast, and they sorted out Gluten free bread and cereals for next morning. The hotel is in need of updating and some of the rooms were damp and had cracks around windows. Luckily the morning staff were excellent and could not fault there service and the breakfast was very good, they saved the day. The actual village and area are very nice for a quiet stay.…

We stayed here as we had travelled up to Lanark for a dog appraisal. Hotel was dog friendly and we had our BB sleep in our room. Room was clean, hotel staff were friendly and it was a great location, just off the motorway.. Will def be staying here again!

Stayed at the hotel as part of a coach trip visiting the Edinburgh Tattoo and area and found the hotel to be very clean and comfortable although the rooms were a little tired and need of modernisation. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Ryan the young barman was brilliant when we all arrived en masse and single handedly served us all with drinks as well as helping us all connect to the hotel's wifi (which didn't work very well). The lovely Lorna and her fellow waitresses were absolutely lovely too and nothing was too much trouble for them. When we left, all the staff came outside to wave us off. I would recommend the hotel based on my experience and would definately stay there again if I was to revisit the area.
