My family and I recently stayed at the Powder House Lodge in Keystone, and loved it. We stayed in a family cabin, myself, my husband and two girls, ages 6 and 5. The cabin was a great size, with a nice front porch and swing. We enjoyed the pool and the restaurant on site was great as well. A great... more

we just spent 3 delightful nights at the Powder House Lodge. It is a family owned/operated property which is old-fashioned in the best meaning of the word and just minutes away from Mount Rushmore. We stayed in a motel room (didn't see the cabins) - the room was a little cramped but well equipped with 2 queen size beds, a... more

I stayed in one of the motel rooms for 3 nights while visiting the Black Hills with my 5-month-old Sheltie puppy. I was VERY SATISFIED. It is easy access from the highway and you avoid the noise of staying in Keystone. The beds have pillow top mattresses and are very comfy, and the room was spotless. I highly rrecommend staying... more

We stayed at the Powder House for 4 nights in one of the All-American Cabins. In general the roominess of the cabin was fine.. it had 2 queen beds which were very comfortable. Didn't like the pillows.. but know you won't find pillows to please everyone. Nice having the kitchenette & table w/ 3 chairs. We ate 1-2 meals every... more

We booked up a year in advance due to tripadvisor reports. Upon arrival we were given cabin number 57 which was at the top of the hill. It was a very quiet and peaceful location. Outside the cabin was a little porch containing a swing chair and 2 patio chairs which was nice to relax in the evening after a... more

We stayed at the Powder House for 5 nights in the 6 plex which had 2 beds and a pull out couch. It was a little tight for our family of 5 but the cabins were all booked in April for July when we decided to go. If we came back to the area I would only stay if we... more

We stayed for two nights on the first leg of our Rushmore/Yellowstone/Jackson trip. We had cabin #42 high on the hill with a view of the pool. The kids really loved the real cabin feel. Flat screen TV was a surprise. The cabins are older, but very clean and kept up. But who wants to experience the west by staying... more

After several weeks of comparing cabins/motels in this area we made reservations for Powderhouse Lodge, cabin #57. Reservations were made months in advance. This area was to be the last "leg" of our summer 2009 trip. We arrived later in the evening. At check in I presented my AAA card and I was given a discount. After papers signed and... more

When making reservations via the phone we generally do not tell guests which cabin or room number they are going to be in. If guests request certain cabin we make notes on the reservation to assure that these requests are granted and they are not moved. When booking online the terms of service also state that you may be moved...

We stayed at the Powder House lodge from June 27 to July 1st. We rented the deluxe family cabin (# 50) with the loft. These are rustic style cabins- in a private/secluded area just minutes away from Keystone and Mt. Rushmore. First, regarding a previous comment about ticks- I saw NO ticks during my stay-in the cabin or otherwise. I... more

We checked in at 9:00 p.m. with two children and received a room in one of the two lodges. We immediately spotted two ticks crawling down the walls. My husband discovered another tick on the bed; I discovered a tick under the bedside table; my nine-year old discovered one crawling on the ceiling. We immediately called the front office and... more

While we apologize for the problems this guest encountered, we are by no means infested with ticks. We are a clean property that takes great pride in our rooms and service. However, we are surrounded by forest service, and will sometimes encounter things such as spiders and ticks, as it is part of nature. In order to combat this we...
