Travelling alone through Cuba in June July 2008 I came across this beautiful peaceful place with total security for families and the solo traveller. Punto Gordo has everything for the traveller,beaches hotels and loads of casa particulars. I stayed with Yamile and Lazaro and they were the perfect hosts. I had a rooftop penthouse for 25$ per nyt and got to know them and their lovely family and friends and also met 'a special friend'.
They organised trips to Santa Clara, Trinidad and other places and to the most spectacular of all, El Nicho, in the mountains with waterfalls and pools ideal for swimming meet the local indians and dine with them and wander thru the fruit forests, I could go on for days. The food here is naturally organic and i felt ashamed not being able to eat it all or more to the point iwas ashamed of eating so little of the large amount put out for me for breakfast or supper by Yamile for $5.
