This place is just on the edge of the Mojave National Preserve. Don't expect to many anemities, Nipton consists of this hotel and eco cabins, the trading post, whistle stop cafe and a handful of houses and mobile homes. Bobby at the trading post was very friendly and offered some local advice. We stayed our first night in one of... more

Please be aware that you can drive through Nipton in about 20 seconds. Your main places of interest are the general store, restaurant and the hotel. Oh and the railroad tracks. It's proximity to the Mojave Preserve makes this the place to stay if you're visiting the preserve. I checked in at the general store and got my key to... more

We were just looking for a place to break our drive between Palm Springs and Vegas. And according to Google maps, this was a sensible stop to make. We had no idea we were about to stumble into the past, experience real solitude and peace in the desert and have the time of our lives. Nipton is tiny. You can... more

Hotel Nipton is located right next to a railroad so not good if you are a light sleeper but as we aren't, we had a great one night stay. The room was small with no TV, aircon or any of the conveniences of a lot of hotels but it makes up for it in charm and history (which coming from... more

This place cannot be measured by the same standards as roadside motels or any suburban lodging options. Nipton is all but 3-4 buildings in the middle of nowhere (for example, closest supermarket is over an hour away). You should only go if you are looking for a desert experience. Note, there are no other similar options near the Mojave preserve... more

This is a great desert getaway destination - away from the rat race, away from the lights, and away from the hub-bub of LA and Vegas. This was my third stay, and this time we had the whole place to ourselves. If you're looking for the Ritz, this is not for you. But if you're looking for a unique desert... more

Although Nipton is good place to experience some outdoor atmosphere, come night, the place turns into a horror movie location. We came at seven pm, the place was closed, there was a phone number on the door, we called but nobody answered so we started to knock on random doors until we found the person who could help us. But... more

Just 5 bedrooms in a purpose-built hotel of 1910, with stacks of period atmosphere. Being the only guest there, I had only coyotes and scorpions for company (to quote an old blues song). The only downer was the noise of the freight trains during the night but that could however be said to add to the romance of the desert. more

Spent our first night in USA here and really enjoyed it. Such a difference to the bustle of Vegas but only an hour away. Situated on the edge of the Mojave desert, the 'town' of Nipton bascially consists of this hotel, a bar/restaurant and a small general store. The hotel is small, with only 4 or 5 rooms and 2... more

The fact that rooms were available on short notice the Friday before Memorial Day should have been a tipoff. We were told when we called ahead earlier that day that the key would be in the mailbox. In my past experience, this meant the innkeeper was there somewhere but just asleep or temporarily away. In our case, this meant there... more
