This place appears to be pretty great at first glance. The location is central, and everything is quite nice. However a few things totally spoil this hostal. First, the hotel's lot is adjacent to the sewer, which is not only a bit disgusting, but there are TONS of mosquitos. Obviously you'd expect some insects on any tropical coast, but the... More

This place looks great at first. We were fine until our last day when I realized that the $70 in my bag were missing. My bag did not leave the hotel so it certainly occurred in the room. Looking at past reviews, it's clear that the hotel has a history of this.

We had a great experience here. We liked the hammocks, kitchen, ambiance, convenience location, good staff and security (only guests are allowed on the premises at night). They will also give you clean towels if you ask. The only "bad" things about this place are things you will likely find at EVERY place in Montanita, so they shouldn't deter you from... More

On our second trip to Montanita we decided to stay right in the thick of it, and this hotel doesn't get more central. Our room was comfy & modern with a decent bathroom, tiling on the floor and clean bed linen. There's a safe in the room, and we had a balcony with sea view, all for $25 (breakfast not... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for a week and we booked the corner room on the second floor, Room #9, which has the absolute best view of the sunset and the ocean. We stayed at two other hostals in montanita before hitting Hostal Pakaloro and it is by far the most romantic room we´ve had in our... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Our modern rooms are IMMACULATE, as noted by the Lonely Planet, exceptionally clean, airy, and bright with beautiful ceramic-tiled floors and baths, large windows, and masterfully-crafted wooden balconies with hammocks and amazing ocean views. We are very lucky and very grateful to our guests for the very positive word of mouth recommendations that ensure that our hostal remains one of the most popular and vibrant in town. In fact, most of our guests tell us that they arrived at our hostal because of great reviews from fellow travelers. WHAT SETS US APART: -LOCATION/ VIEWS: Hostal Pakaloro is in the center of town (amid all of the restaurants, shops, and bars) with our hostal just a few steps from the ocean and on the river bedside which allows for truly inspiring views of the ocean, river, and town, as well as the surf break, sunsets, sunrises, and beachgoers. -STRUCTURE/HARMONY: The owner built her hostal around 3 very important requirements: large balconies for relaxation and socializing, hammocks galore for daydreaming and enjoyment, and large windows for a constant flow of air, light, and views. -SOCIALIZING: Our hostal is always full of energy and great ambiance thanks to the coolness of our guests. Our large balconies, communal rest/ lounge areas, and communal kitchen make it easy for our guests to socialize and feel at home. -PRICE! PRICE! PRICE!: We are the VALUE PLAY in town. Our prices are extremely reasonable and economic for what we offer. -COMFORT: You’ll find an immaculate, spacious modern room with a balcony, hammock, fan, 24 hour hot water, private bath, DIRECTV and WIFI (in lounge areas and some balconies). And the intangibles are even better: breathtaking views, an ambiance of camaraderie, and security! ... more   less
