Murchison has not much interest to many travelers, but really when you get to this lodge you feel like not wanting to leave anymore - the setting is marvelous!. there is a large meadow and a river right out front. the house where the bedrooms are is a large and extremely comfortable, beautiful log cabin - a bit more than... more

Stayed one night (too short) here - superb setting, fantastic hosts, lovely lodge, and the bonus of getting to borrow the dog and take her down for a swim in the river. Breakfast was divine. Magic! more

Murchison is a much under-rated stop. A few more nice shops of interest and a slightly more structured tourism strategy would no doubt lift the small town's appeal to less active and adventurous sorts, but for us Murchison was a convenient overnight stop en route to Picton. As it turned out The Lodge is the ONLY place to consider spending... more

We booked this B&B for only one night on our way to the West Coast, but, like other reviewers, really wished we could have stayed longer. Since we arrived in a downpour, Merve sat us by the fire and served us hot tea and homemade cookies while telling us about the area's attractions. Our room, the Riverview, was huge and... more

Of all the places, all the good places, we stayed at during four weeks in New Zealand, Murchison Lodge will stand out as the unbeatable winner. A friendly welcome, an invitation to put our soaked shoes (and ourselves) in front of the fire to dry up, delicious home-made porridge which Merve cooked only because I asked for it; free wireless... more

What a great place!!!! Merv and Shirley were so enjoyable to get to know. Murchison was beautiful. I agree with others that 2 or 3 days could easily be spent here. We stopped here on our way from Punakaiki to Abel Tasman. If we had to do it again we would enjoy Murchison and the Buller an additional day. more

We stayed here for three nights and it was the best three nights of our entire holiday in New Zealand. Murchison is an adventure wonderland, this is not a stopover place, we have three full days of activities, kayaking, white water rafting, jet boating, adventure caving and mountain biking, yes we were a little tired after all of that). The... more

We stayed at Murchsion Lodge while travelling around New Zealand on our honeymoon. When we pulled up to Murchison Lodge, Shirley was outside ready to meet us. She showed us to the most beautiful room on the second floor. There are windows on three sides all looking out onto breath taking views, and a small balcony where you can see... more

Murchison Lodge was great! We booked it as a quick one night stopover during a longer drive, but once we arrived we wished we could stay longer. The lodge itself is a really cool, alpine-style timbered structure with a lovely open lounge area (high ceilings, stone fireplace, etc.) Our room (the "Tui" room was cozy, comfortable, and super quiet and... more
