Based on the room, price and location, Rainforest is the best motel that we've stayed in, compared to our accomodations in Kaikoura, Christchurch, Hanmer Springs, Greymouth and Lake Tekapo. Reception was friendly, although we showed up without a booking. A special price offered in a few-week-old email was also honoured. It was obviously a very quiet time for them too,... more

We had a very nice stay in a 2 bedroom unit. The owner/manager was very helpful in arranging child care for our glacier walk. (She agreed to keep the baby and take him to playgroup with her children. I understand they are raising funds for a community child care program.) They brought over toys for the baby when we arrived.... more

I remember when I was booking hotels for our trip to New Zealand, I found the Glacier Country to be somewhat expensive. I think I paid more for the hotel in Fox Glacier than I did elsewhere in New Zealand. The hotel is fine; typical tourist standard, with the ability to drive up to the room, king bed, kitchen, large... more

We stayed for one night while visiting Fox Glacier. I believe the place had changed owners recently and we greeted by an English lady who was extremely helpful, friendly and chatty, I felt like nothing was too much to ask for (not that I did, I just got that feeling). The room was very comfortable and clean, very roomy, self... more

Property is a 2-3 minute walk to the township. Guides and trips are located on the main strip. Would need a car to get to glacier. Property was very clean, basic and great for a family. more

My wife and I travelled with my wife's parents. My mother-in-law has some disability as a result of a stroke and so we requested accommodation that would be as comfortable as possible for her. The owners could not have been more helpful. We were given a 2-bedroom room with easy access to the shower. The property itself is basic but... more

We arrived late at night in the pouring rain, with a young baby. The owners were so welcoming and went out of their way to help us out. The portacot we had ordered was already up for us, which is a rarity. The room was clean and as exactly as expected for the price. I was keen to see the... more

We stayed at the Rainforest Motel for 2 nights in March 2008. We had a queen studio - bed, bathroom, table w/2 chairs and kitchenette. The motel is basic, but very clean. I did not find the kitchenette to be adequate for cooking - there is no real stove or oven - just something called a "mini kitchen" - it... more

I would tend to agree with the last reviewer - the owner is a bit rude (or at least curt). Given the extreme friendliness of most Kiwis, I was a bit surprised. The accommodation was rather dull / dated, but functional. The giant windows across the front of the room allow you to see the mountains (when it's clear) -... more

We stayed two nights here and found the motel owner to be one of the rudest people we have ever come across. We were ‘greeted’ in a extremely unfriendly and abrupt manner and even questioned whether or not to stay there given his attitude. Unfortunately though, everywhere else seemed to be booked up, otherwise we would have seriously thought about... more
