We had 6 in our group, so we booked the Tree House which accommodates up to 7 guests, and it turned out to be a good choice. The Tree House is tucked away from the rest of the resort, and it housed 6 of us comfortably. We appreciated the fully-equipped kitchen, spacious lounge and cosy bedrooms. There were enough heaters... more

Our group of four 50-plus adults was told we weren't supposed to be drinking wine on the deck of our $183 room (a room that comes equipped with wine glasses), but the punk security guy let it slide because we "looked older." Totally ruined the ambiance. When informed that we don't appreciate that kind of treatment, the insolent cashier at... more

Sounds much better than it really is - at the moment a high grade backpackers. The description on the website of tree huts "raised up into the rainforest canopy" sounds romantic but is misleading. These are log cabins on 2' stilts. It was hard to get into the room without getting soaked when it was raining - and it does... more

We stayed two nights in a twin share motel room, with complimentary half hour use of the private spa each day. The room was very good.... spacious, big bathroom, kitchenette well equipped with utensils and crockery and cutlery, comfortable double beds, oil heater, large glass entry doors, Austar TV. The staff at reception both days were very pleasant, even though... more

We stayed 1 night in this hotel with 3 people. We stayed in a backpackers room with a private bathroom. Everything was very clean. The room and the bathroom were small but very clean and cosy. There's a restaurant and bar near the hotel but we went to the city center which is very close to the hotel more

A friend and I stayed here as part of the Contiki group. With Contiki we request twin-share in hopes to obtain better rooms. The twin-share at the Retreat was ridiculous. The rooms (not sure if they are rooms), were more like glass boxes! The only thing that keeps people from looking in were curtains, I kid you not. There was... more

We had a standard twin ensuite cell. No room to literally swing a cat. Disgustingly overpriced. Beds too soft and sagged in the middle. We really enjoyed listening to everyones conversatons through the walls and roof... NOT. The shared kitchen area was dirty and the internet room stank and was littered with rubbish. Could not wait to leave. more

We stayed in an en suite double for one night and it was a really basic room with a somewhat "bare minimum" feel to it. Small room and tiny bathroom with a broken sliding bathroom door, tiny sink (got myself all wet brushing my teeth). The bed was really soft and somewhat sunken in the middle, and as other reviewers... more

Splashed out on a tree hut as a treat during our trip around NZ. Well worth it. Lovely log style cabin. Clean, comfortable and the best two nights sleep we have had. Along with this, it is located just off the main street and has all the facilities you need. We had a private spa pool to un-wind after our... more

My partner and I stayed here in a standard ensuite room for 2 nights. The room was tiny, we could barely fit our luggage in! It was VERY basic, nothing like we have ever stayed in before. You can hear everything in the rooms next door/above, so dont expect to get a great nights sleep! The retreat itself does have... more
