I have stayed at this hotel each October for the past 5 years. I love it more and more each time. The first time, I literally was in the last available room, which was the smallest. It was comical, yet still comfortable. The following year, I booked earlier and received a larger room. The same for the next and so... more

A quaint vintage hotel that still has the feel of the 20s when it was built. Like vintage clothing, yes, it's a bit rough around the edges - my room was a bit small, the building a bit creaky. But the service was friendly, my room was very clean, and it was nice not to be staying in yet another... more

A great place to stay, full of eastern rugs and antique furniture. Excellent bar and meals, and just a short walk to the rail station for the train to Boston. more

My wife and I stayed in this handsome hotel February 8 - 12th on the recommendation of relatives. We were not disappointed as this has to be one of our most favorite places in this area of the country. The Hawthorne Hotel is a historic hotel opened in 1925 and today, seems to be center of this community with many... more

We've stayed here before in a bigger room and it wasn't too bad. This trip, however, we were in a much smaller room--tiny, in fact--for almost $170 a night. Some positives: the lobby is lovely, as well as the exterior of the hotel, the location is great, and I am happy that they allow pets because we had our small... more

I received a gift certificate of the Hawthorne hotel at a holiday party in 2006. The gift cert was/is for a free night stay with breakfast. I have attempted to use the gift cert on three different occasions, and have been denied every time. Other times I have left messages at the provided contact number and nobody has bothered to... more

On behalf of the entire hotel, this is an extremely disappointing review to read. What this person is commenting on is called a holiday trade gift certificate. These are not gift cards that you would purchase. Hotels trade each other free night stays to give to their employees, typically at their holiday party, or year round as a thank you....

We were in Salem for a wedding, and this hotel definitely sufficed. The room was extremely small (front door hit a closet and the bed when opened), but overall it's a nice historic hotel in a great location. Too bad Salem is so witch-obsessed that there's not much to do if you want something other than crystal readings and haunted... more

We went for our honeymoon on October 21st and stayed for 4 nights. We stayed in room 614, supposedly right next to the most haunted room. Not suprisingly, we had no problems whatsoever. Really enjoyed the historic aspect of the hotel. It maintained its historic appeal, with modernized amenities. The only downfall was that it lacks individual temperature controls in... more

We rolled into salem with no reservation on a weekend in october. We luckily snagged their last room.....$179 for a room in their adjacent little B&B type residence. Room was nice, bed was very comfy, tiny tiny shower, otherwise very spacious and well appointed. Only drawback....and this was huge, was that we were in room 1-1 which was 1 thin... more

We just got back from our trip to Salem. The hotel is very nice. Check in was fine and the loby is beautiful. The room was clean but very small. We had one queen size bed in our room. I see in some other pictures that the other rooms were alot larger. Keep that in mind when you make reservations.... more
