I knew it was not going to be a good experience from the beginning when there was a note on the front door with a phone number to contact the Inn Keeper so she could have a renter in the same house let us in. We did not see the Inn Keeper until the next morning. This Bed & Breakfast... more
Peoples perceptions are so interesting! The person below Grandpatraveler, whose title was Home from Home, stayed in the same exact room as Grandpatraveler. Grandpa stayed for one day. Home away from home traveler stayed with us for 10 days and could not have been any happier with her experience. She spoke of the clean and comfortable room, the continental breakfast...
Stafford, England. Having had a long journey from Staffordshire, across London and to Heathrow to get my flight, followed by the flight itself and the journey from Logan to Salem, I was made very welcome at the Henry Derby by Peg and immediately felt at home. The room was lovely, just what we English imagine an American colonial house to... more
I stayed here last weekend. It is within easy walking distance from the train station, just a block behind the Post Office building on Washington St. The Inn's entrance is lovely with planters of picture perfect flowers, There is a friendly resident cat too. Peg, the owner, is very nice and has lots of helpful advise for travelers. The place... more
We stayed one night of our planned three nights at the Henry Derby House Bed & Breakfast this past week. Unfortunately, due to my own ignorance, when I made my reservations with Peg a couple months ago, I looked for the phone number and cost of the rooms as well as the location, and did not notice that she actually... more
I advise people not to listen to the negative reviews listed below... My father and I stayed here for a week, and indeed in the room where you had to lift the door up in order for it to close properly... but you know what? BIG DEAL! The house is old, the property is old, it's in an old area... more
Our stay at the Henry Derby House was one of the best vacations at a B & B. The Host made us feel so welcome. Our first breakfast lasted over two hours. The conversation with the host was so exciting we did not want to leave the table. She has a vast knowledge of the area and throws in her... more
My wife and I drove up to Salem,Ma for a short visit. Before we went I was researching place to stay online and came acrossed the Derby House. It looked nice and quaint so we decided to stay there. I have to say my wife was not too keen on a B&B but she went along with it anyhow. Well... more
The place was not awful in any way, but for your money you hope it would be nicer. As Peg notes, the doors are swollen, and mine was hanging slightly off the hinges and had to be positioned in a certain way to close it. The bed also sank in the middle. The place was clean, but the bathroom looked... more
We had the pleasure of staying at the Henry Derby on March 31 and April 1 of this year. Located in the historic district and close to the downtown area, it was very easy to get around to see the sights of this historic city and Peg the owner was filled with info on what to see and where to... more
