The Berkeley Guesthouse is an annex of the Newport Hostel. There are only 2 rooms available in what used to be a private home so it's a very quiet accommodation. The host lives on the 2nd floor of the building and the rental rooms are on the 3rd floor- separated by a locked door and stairs. Notable is that the internal stairs are very steep and narrow so the guesthouse is only an option for sure-footed travelers.

The guesthouse is a much more reasonably priced accommodation than any proper hotel in Newport. At $150/night it's still not cheap but that gets you a private room (1 queen bed or 2 twins), a bath which is shared with the only other room, bead and bath linens, coffee/juice in the morning and the ever-covetted parking spot.

The downside to the annex is that is located in the mansion district so it's a 15 minute walk through a residential area to the commerce center of Lower Thames. At night it is pretty dark between downtown and the annex so you have to... more
