We were 2 couples with wedding anniversaries a day apart, looking to celebrate in Newport, R.I. No one was willing to rent 2 rooms for Saturday night only, until my friend found the Cleveand. Not only were we thrilled to find a place to stay that evening, but we were so happy with the attention we received once we were... More

My girlfriend and I booked a room at the clarkestone last weekend, instead of getting a room we got an "upgrade" to a room at the cleveland house across the street. Here are the pro's and Cons, PRO's: Location, it is within a block of downtown. CON's: This place was horrid. At first glimpse it looks like a nice old... More

Maybe it's because I'm a history buff but my wife and I loved the Clarkeston Inn, across the street from the Cleveland House and one of the several Inns of Newport. Sure our room wasn't huge but the house was built in 1705! (The first shots of the Revolutionary War were in 1775). And sure it's not our usual Marriott... More

We went to Newport to celebrate 1st anniversary of our first date during Winterfest. Cleveland house was a quaint inn, rooms are a little small, but fine for a one night stay - clean, comfy, quiet, and warm. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was awesome, loved the blueberry pancakes. Our car got snowed in and... More

Upon arriving we walked into the inn we booked at and were in the building for 5 minutes without anyone there to greet us. As I went back outside someone from across the street came out and informed us we had to check in over in that house. When we entered, the smell of old mildew was overwhelming. We were... More

I have never written a bad review in my life. I am a raid warrior when it comes to traveling. I allowed my girlfriend to book the rooms for this vacation and she won't be allowed ever again. On a serious note, the place is not what it states to be. You will book for one inn, get switched to... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Newport and at Cleveland House. Rick was very welcoming and always available to answer questions and offer suggestions about what to do, when to go and where to eat. Joe was also helpful during the evenings. The inn was close to downtown so we were able to walk almost everywhere. The breakfasts were delicious... More

Columbus Day weekend 2012. We booked a room at the Farragut Inn and upon check in, were told that we could "upgrade" to a room at the Cleveland House. We decided to go with the upgrade as the Farragut Inn seemed a little beat up and in need of some cosmetic repairs. The "king"size room on the 2nd floor of... More

My husband and I just returned from two wonderful nights at The Cleveland House. It goes without saying that Newport is fantastic: ocean, shops, restaurants...heavenly! We were warmly welcomed by Rick, the innkeeper himself! What an enthusiastic, personable guy! He loves what he does, is proud, and it shows! We were offered an upgrade..NO CHARGE! The room bowled us over:... More
