My wife and I decided at the last minute to stay the night in Newport at the tail end of a weeklong trip. We went to the visitor center and gave our price range/desires, and they recommended the Stella Maris. It was perfect for our needs...and one of the few available lodging options for a Friday night at 5:30pm. The... more

Gracious hosts who are happy to give you helpful hint on directions ect. Delicious home made breakfast, fantastic views, I would come for the porch alone. And a sustained pleasant dialogue with the the host who have a multitude of experience. more

The Stella Maris Inn is an excellent place to stay while visiting Newport. Ed and Dorothy are wonderful hosts and the house is in a very convenient spot with wonderful sea views. The rooms are very comfortable. If you want dinner while there we discovered an excellent restaurant, within walking distance, called The Rhumbline at 62 bridge st, (recommended by... more

I stayed at the Stella Maris over 4th of July weekend. Dorothy and Ed were very kind and ran a beautiful B&B. The Stella Maris is a large renovated old house from the 1800s with an interesting history. The decor gives the house a sense of both class and coziness. The breakfast was homemade (in response to another post, I... more

We arrived late on a Thursday evening without a booking but armed with a recommendation of the Lonely Planet Guide. The owners were very welcoming and advised us of good resturants in the area that would not blow the budget. We absolutely loved the house and its old-world charm. We would have loved to stay longer but we had to... more

I have just returned from Newport. I spent one night at the Stella Maris Inn. I pulled into Newport with no place to stay. I read about the Stella Maris Inn in my book Rhode Island: Off The Beaten Path. I called a few other Inn's. I liked the price of the Stella Maris especially for being located with an... more

We had a very lovely time at Stella Maris. We enjoied the beautiful rooms and breakfast room. The place is very pleasant and the owners, Ed and Dorothy are people as once upon a time it's used to be. Coming from Italy and be surprised was the best thing happened to us in our vacation in USA. Hope we stay... more

The pros: We had a super clean, victorian, nice sized room. Our room was on the third floor, which afforded beautiful views of the harbor and the Jamestown bridge. Each morning when we woke there was another cruise ship in the harbor. Every evening we could watch the sun set in the west from either our room or from the... more

We stayed with Ed and Dorothy at the Stella Maris Inn for a long weekend in mid-June 2004. This inn was on the Secret Garden Tour, and Ed did the gardening himself! About a 5 minute walk to Goat Island, and about a 7-10 minute walk to "downtown" Newport, Stella Maris offered a beautiful (though slightly obstructed) view of the... more

We stayed there for 5 days at this beautiful inn. We got to know the owners, who are both very interesting and friendly. The coffee was great! They went out of their way to accommodate us because we forgot a couple of our necessities. Other than great people and a beautiful inn, the room we had was spacious, clean, beautifully... more
