After getting lost in the labyrinth of one way streets around Newport my fiancé and I were frustrated upon our arrival at The Vanderbilt Hall Hotel. All our tension quickly dissipated as we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. The lobby and room decor was warm and inviting. The studio room we booked was more than large enough... more

I called the hotel in March to see if they had any specials for April & they offered us 2 nights for the cost of 1. We wanted to get away for a weekend during the 19th and it was the best experience! From the moment we booked our King Suite, staff were friendly, upfront about costs, taxes, fees, parking.... more

I booked a room at this hotel based on the reviews I had read on tripadvisor.com. You never really know what to expect when you book a hotel and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. When my husband and I checked in, we were told we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite (I had booked a... more

The reviews to date are accurate, this is a wonderful property, conveniently located in-town. The website pictures are accurate as well (to view hotel room descriptions and pictures one will need to go to 'reservations'). The hotel renovation was beautifully done; it is fresh, open, charming and inviting. The spa/gym is new, well done, save that there are no locks... more

Management response from
VandMgr, Manager

As the guest services and reservations manager at the property I would like to make clear that we under no circumstances operate with "suspect reservation practices". I am the manager mentioned in the review and in complete honesty simply made a mistake when I was quoting availability for these guests and believed the room type they were looking into to...

I stayed here back in 2004 and did not write a review but this was Vanderbilt Hall Inn back then and it was great! The place is situated in a great location right near the downtown and overlooking the harbor! It is a very large Inn/Hotel and one of the larger ones in Newport (I have stayed at quite a... more

We booked a two night stay at the Vanderbilt for Thanksgiving for a short getaway. We expected a lovely hotel but this far exceeded our expectations. Our room was immaculate, and included a kitchenette and living area. The bed was extremely fluffy and comfy. The staff on duty went out of their way to make us feel welcome each time... more

My husband and I spent two nights at the Vanderbilt Residence Club. It's beautifully appointed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We seemed to be one of only two couples in the hotel (it was December after all), so it was very quiet. We would definitely stay here again. The hotel itself is in a perfect location, within easy... more

This was my first stay at the Vanderbilt, and it far exceeded any and all expectations!! The room was much larger than I expected, with a full separate living room. It was exquisitely decorated as well. The location is excellent -- within walking distance of the main tourist area of Newport. The hotel staff was very accomodating and welcoming. I... more

We decided to head out of NYC to visit colonial Newport, Rhode Island for a relaxing country weekend. We hit every obstacle along the way to Newport - including massive accidents all over the road, followed by getting completely lost in Rhode Island, the hotel was so helpful. It was around 10pm when we knew we wouldn't be arriving until... more

I grew up in Newport and worked in many of the city’s inns and hotels. When I returned to Newport to get married, I simply walked to the Vanderbilt one evening and inquired about staying there. It turned out to be the best thing we could have done. Literally centrally located, this well-built property is surprisingly quiet given the bustling... more
