My wife and I stayed at the Copper Center Lodge for two nights to visit Wrangell-Sant Elias NP, as the Copper Center Princess wilderness lodge happened to be closed for the season. I was somewhat concerned with prior posts, but my brother had stayed there some five years ago and told me it was quaint but OK, so I decided... more

I have lived in Alaska for 15 years, and this was the most disgusting hotel/lodge I have stayed in ever. We won't go into the uncleaned bathroom, because I get sick thinking about it. Bad bed, dirty room that hadn't been redecorated in probably 60 years. I couldn't wait to leave in the morning. more

Small, cramped, noisy and dirty. Shower stall is 2x2 metal inclosure. Metal floor was painted with deck paint - I guess at least you could not see if it was clean. Dogs roamed the "lobby" area and made themselves at home on the furniture. Ceiling in the bathroom was held together with scotch tape - no exageration. You could not... more

We stayed one night here - good thing because I wouldn't have wanted to stay another. General comments: the food is pretty good! Part of the clientele are seasonal fishermen and the others are tourist. You might hear some rough language during the salmon run. The bottled water was free because the local water was NOT approved for drinking. It's... more

Leave your sophistication at the screen door. Copper Center Lodge is just what it purports to be, historic and family-run. Yes, the rooms are cramped, baths are small and you miss air conditioning in July. Window fans and free bottled water are provided and all is clean and well-maintained for a 100 year old house. The food is homey and... more

Staying at this hotel was certainly an experience. I’m just not sure if I should remember it as a good one or a bad one. This lodge is on the National Register of Historic Roadhouses and it does look…Historic but not in the sense of those chateaus or palaces turned into hotels in Europe. No, no, this is Alaska-historic. The... more

If you are looking for rustic charm off the beaten path, this is the place. It is a family run establishment without bells and whistles. The room we had was small, but had a view to the front yard where we were entertained by the local dogs. The bathroom had much to be desired, but we were only there for... more

Don't expect Frette linens, fresh flowers in Limoges vases and designer-influenced touches at this family-run hotel. The Copper Center Lodge is a nearly 100-year old establishment that was built as a roadhouse. Get it? ROADHOUSE! But, read on! The rooms are small and cramped, with a tiny television and small bathroom. It's two-stars at best, but heck, you're in Alaska,... more
