Assuming you make time to really experience the great diversity and splendor Yellowstone offers (we felt we needed four full days), Norris Campground provides an ideal location. Yellowstone by road is experienced as a large ring, with spurs to other outer locales. Because Norris is in the north-central part of this "ring" and because it is first-come, first served, it... The campground is in a beautiful setting on the meandering high grassy banked Gibbon River. The hiking trail out the back of the campground is shaded & peaceful. There are resident bison, so stay your distance. They have gored and might again if provoked. I stayed in loop A & loved it. All the sites surround a meadow of grazing... More

Since Norris is one of the park's non-reservation campgrounds you have to be lucky and persevering to get a site here. As first time campers at Yellowstone I knew we'd have to have reservations to camp anywhere in the park so I chose one by the canyon. When we arrived we found it to be okay, but rather shady and... First time with the family in YNP and Norris was a fantastic place to stay. The campground was quiet and the campers were courteous. I would recommend getting there by 7 or 730 to secure a first come first serve site as the good ones fill up. We were lucky and got a great site on loop A on the... More

If you expect luxury don't go camping in a national park. If you expect soap, shampoo, conditioner etc, to be provided, I recommend staying in one of the lodges, or in a hotel outside. Also, if you are scared of wildlife, why would you camp in a place full of it? Now, this campground is great. Very private if you... More

We stayed for a week at the Norris Campground in July, 2012 and it was an amazing week. We arrived at about 8:30 a.m. and secured site W1 in the walk-in section right on the river. We drove around and watched for people who looked to be packing up and got our site that way. Plan on arriving early if... More

After reading the negative comment written about Norris, I felt the need to write my response. My family and I camped at Norris for a few nights and loved every moment there. I enjoyed sitting and watching my two guys fishing in the stream that ran next to our campsite. This campground is clean, has trash pickup, and bathrooms. No... More

Just returned from YNP after a week stay in Norris campground. Great park, but the same can't be said about this campground which is in bad need of upgrade. Even in high season that July/August is we found a place to put our tent. One has to arrive early (we did by 7AM) since by 10AM on the day of... More

We camped in Norris for a week. We were only supposed to stay 3 days but the family liked it so much we extended our stay. We had a site in B loop which was close to the bathrooms in B loop or the ones in the front of the campground. Try to find a site with a little shade... More

If you're picky, get there early in the day (before 11; I'd recommend showing up by 9:30 or 10) because campsites are first-come, first-served. The A loop is down near the bison plain, the B and C loops are up on the hill. We stayed in the C loop and it was fantastic. Most of the sites are private, there's... More
