20 Dec 2007 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Four of us stayed at Domaine d'Ambola for three days. Getting there was a serious adventure and included five different modes of transport: plane, taxi, zebu cart, boat and 4x4 jeep. The hotel is very simple but in the most wonderful position on one of the best stretches of beach in the world. The staff were friendly and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The food was simple but well prepared. The National Park nearby is wonderful and has been only opened recently so very few visitors. The ringtailed lemur pets were adolescents by the time we arrived (unlike the previous reviewer who met them as babies) so were just getting a little obnoxious. They may well not be there by the time you arrive... Rooms are very plain but with mosquito nets and bathrooms only have cold water. But all in all, highly recommended. more

This is a bit pricey for Madagascar, but the setting is lovely. There is a nearby protected lake and park where you can see blind cave fish, various geologic formations, the oldest tree in Madagascar, wildlife, and more.

There were 4 apparently "resident" ring tailed lemurs at this hotel. They ignored everyone else but jumped on my head and climbed me; perhaps because I didn't mind and...
