Gonzagues House is one of the last remaining manor houses in Cotignac a charming village in the unspoiled Upper Var area. Particular care has been lavished on the building, which has been both conserved and renovated in keeping with the spirit of the 18th century, the period during which the house was erected(the exact date is 1747).The 5 principal bedrooms with their fireplaces, are each decorated differently (Jouy, Marseillaise, Louis XIV, Monacale, Marie-Louise)together with their separated bathrooms and toilets. The furniture is antique ans some pieces are very old indeed.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We recently stayed in Cotignac at Maison Gonzagues for two nights. It is in a great location. We were very impressed by the kindness of our host, and the beauty of our room. We really enjoyed the breakfast too. It is a great place to stay while visiting Cotignac!

Our hostess was great - and when we had to leave a day early (due to circumstances not under our control), there was no quibble or charge, even though it was a bit late notice on our part. If you are looking for a really old, authentic piece of France, this is stuffed full of character. B&B only, very friendly, with guests encouraged to sit together for breakfast, so a good social setting.

Loved Cotignac so much so that we are looking for a home there! Beautifully restored ancient house full of character and history. Stephane and Martine very friendly and helpful. Central location near to main square. Parking bit of a challenge but if you want history expect a few rough edges.

Cotignac was recommended to us as the perfect Provence destination. We tried, unsuccessfully, to book the suggested accommodation so it was with trepidation we booked an unknown B&B, Maison Gonzagues. How fortunate we were! We had 4 nights with delightful hosts, Martine and Stephane and really couldn't have asked for more. Grand building (1747) spotlessly clean with character filled, spacious room. It's not often you get a four poster bed with chandelier on inside of bed! Breakfast was served in a gorgeous room and varied every morning. Our hosts were there if needed but we felt like we had the house to ourselves. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for the four poster bed room as you have a small entrance and separate toilet.

Nice but a bit overprized b&b. It looks very nice on the pics and presentation, but the atmosphere was not as cozy as it seemed. Also we did not like it was sounded but luckily we stayed outside high season so it could have been worse. Bring ear plugs just in case. Breakfast was decent. We had to pay cash even though we already had given visa card info.

We were guided to Maison Gonzagues and hosts Stephane and Martine through Provence Reservation Day Tours. The stay was truly one of the highlights of our May 2011 trip. After several days in Paris, we embarked on a tour arranged by PRDT. Cotignac was an unfamiliar place, but listed as a stop along the way. We were so worried about our late arrival - but were met warmly by Stephane who expertly parked our car (as we were causing some chaos by going the wrong way!). He and his wife, Martine, escorted us to our gorgeous room. After some time to settle, we headed downstairs for what we expected to be a simple dinner. What a surprise for us! This 5 course meal prepared by Stephane and Martine was by far one of the best meals of our 2 weeks of travel throughout France. I'd consider us to be seasoned travelers - but I've never stayed in a more beautiful location with more gracious hosts. My heart warms every time I think of our stay. If our travels take us back to France - Cotignac and Maison Gonzagues will definitely be on our list.

Our first trip to Provence and we scoured Trip Advisor finding the C18th Maison Gonzagues - and we were not disappointed. From the outset, you are met by a friendly smile from Stephane who couldn't have been more helpful throughout our stay. We were shown our room, with a lovely 4 Poster Bed; the room was large with en suite shower, loo etc. It is very clean, beautifully furnished and in the morning you are treated to a traditional French breakfast. Would we stay again? Certainly! Finally, if you do stay, only 100 yards away, in the centre of Cotignac, is a fantastic restaurant: La Table de la Fontaine. Enjoy - we did.

What a beautiful experience. What a beautiful building, so full of character and history. So unique that we cannot beleive we were lucky to find it. The owner was lovely and very helpful. If you are in this part of Provence then it must be tried to be believed.

A magnificent 17th century merchant's house in the heart of one of the most interesting Provencal villages. The owners are attentive to your every need. They go out of their way to keep the decor in keeping with the character of the house: understated charm rather than over-stated. Our bedroom was huge and comfortable. The staircase is a marvel in itself. Breakfast was excellent. We'll be back!
