"Casa al Castello" is a charming and comfortable guest house, located in the famous area of Val di Noto, cradle of the late-baroque art and architecture, more exactly in the land of Modica, city part of the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST. The house lies on a rocky spur over the suggestive rupestral construction of so-called "Castello" ("THE CASTLE"), in a such singular as exclusive position. The building overlooks the well-known Cava d'Ispica, a long rocky valley (for about 13 Km) that preserves numberless archaeological testimonies and contains important species of the Mediterranean flora and fauna (it's an area SCI: SITE OF COMMUNITY IMPORTANCE). The location of our house allows to easily reach the golden beaches of Pozzallo, Sampieri, S. Lorenzo, Cala Mosche, as well as the natural oisis of Vendicari and also the Southern extremity of Sicily with its sea town of Portopalo of Capo Passero (at a distance of about 15-35 Km). From here it's also easy to reach the charming baroque-cities of Ragusa, Scicli and Noto (at about 15-30 Km). The house, at its origin, residence for the sharecroppers, has been restored using natural construction materials, typical for this zone, as dry-stone and wood; now it includes six comfortable rooms, each of them with private entrance and bathroom, air conditioning and all connected to the large terrace from where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the entire cave. Our swimming-pool will refresh your stay during the hottest summer days, assuring you in the same time relaxation and well-being. You can also enjoy with fee the inviting outdoor Hot Tub, located on a rocky spur overlooking the valley: just a few meters of rock will separate you from the cliff. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room or in the nice garden. Service food available provided by our catering partner (dinner only and on reservation the very morning only). The nearest restaurants and pizzerias are located at a distance of about 5 Km from our guest house as well as a shopping center where you can find a supermarket and other different shops. The atmosphere of peace and innate calm that dominates this charming place, embedded in the middle of this spectacular nature exactly like a pearl of rare beauty, will revive and guide you, at the same time, to discover again the lost meaning by now of the concept of slow-living.

If you are looking for a peaful and calm place which is perfect to relax and re-energize, do not look any further. It is the perfect location if you have a rental car, would like to relax for a few days around the pool or in the hammock. It is super calm and quiet as only one dirt road is leading to the place and it is surrounded by a beautiful canyon. The Casa is also a good location for a day at the beach (30mins) or to cities like Modica, Ragusa, Noto or Syracusa. You have a very unique sight also directly next to the Casa, as there a historical caves where people used to live as well as Graves. The place offers everything you need in the rooms and in the garden and it was perfectly clean. The host is super nice and helpful and the breakfast is spectacular. It consists of many local specialities as well as home made cakes which are amazing. Thank you very much for the great time we got to spend at Casa al Castello!

My partner and I spent 3 nights at Casa al Castello but wished we had stayed here our entire holiday. The villa is situated literally on a rock in a lush valley where the breeze calms you down. Paolo makes you feel at home with all of his heart. His dedication and hospitality is also what makes this place stand out. From his fresh baked morning cheese cake and typical breakfast to providing many relaxing and romantic spots around the villa. Swing in a hammock under the olive trees, slide in the jacuzzi with a view of the valley or climb down the adventurous nearby steps where you find Neolithic caves to explore. This place sure deserves the right visitors. We hope to come back soon! Paolo and family, many thanks.

Great location around 15 minute drive from Modica with fantastic views of the canyon. Paulo was a very welcoming host providing fresh breakfast every day (including home made cakes) and advice on the local area. Rooms are all very spacious and clean. Would highly recommend for a great value and peaceful rural stay in Sicily.

We stayed at Casa al Castello for 5 days with our 7 month old baby. It was very very comfortable for us to stay there. We were able to swim in a peaceful environment and enjoy the most stunning views we’ve ever seen. The tranquility there is just amazing. The place is very clean too. The breakfast was absolutely delicious every morning. Paolo, our host, would bake the most mouth watering cakes each morning that made it hard to resist. He always had local, fresh produce which was so tasty. Paolo always went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable and he succeeded. It was a pure pleasure being there and making a new friend 😊 well done.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Casa al Castello is perched on the edge of a canyon and offers a complete escape from the world, whilst being in easy reach of the baroque towns and only 1.5hr drive from Catania airport. The host, Paolo is extremely welcoming and friendly and is happy to help with any questions. He also provides the best breakfast we had on Sicily! We would love to visit again (and Paolo & Angelica if you’re ever visiting Oxford you’d be welcome to stay with us!)

A gem in the rough. We took the chance and booked a week best move ever. Great host who can't do enough to help you. Great location and views.wr could totally chill while a 10 min drive brought us to top tavernas. Historical sites are way better than Syracuse and free? Lying by the pool relaxing in the breeze from the gorge I actually got to watch falcons hunt amazing. Area was spotless as was th rooms. Breakfast was great. We will definitely go back. It beats the commercial hotels hands down for personal service

We were here (me and my fiance) in may 2018. The weather was perfect, water in a pool warm and the views breathetaking. Casa al Castello is a unique place. Nice architecture, a lot of wild animals (not dangerous) and a peace and silence. Hosts Angela and Paolo are very polite and helpful. The rooms are perfect. Breakfeasts are delicious (regional dishes). What can I say - I recommend this place to everybody. For sure I will come back here again :-)

Very good room, and a hot spa pool and a swimming pool with a beautiful view. This is a family run villa with very good service. The host Paulo will do everything possible to make your stay happy, and share his knowledge of the area, it’s history, and its local foods. We also enjoyed pizzas from a nearby farm Villa Piera (cheap and good quality) and dinner at a nearby ristorante Taverna Migliore (expensive and very good quality). Thank you to Paulo for everything.

Large, clean and very comfortable rooms. Excellent pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast has wonderful local products and changes every day. From cheese to Modican chocolate... Modica is just 15 min drive. This place is a real gem. Hidden deep in the countryside on the edge of a canyon lies Casa al Castello. You have unique views over the canyon and the surrounding countryside and it is absolutely quiet here. The place consists of a renovated old house and a modern annexe. Both are impeccably done. We had the room in the annexe with our own porch and views over the swimming pool and canyon. Beds are big and comfortable, the bathroom is brandnew and very clean. The room is spacious and light and has a TV for watching the Giro d'Italia. WiFi signal is strong everywhere. The swimming pool is not heated and was too cold for us (end of may 2017). The breakfast is the best I ever had. It consists of home made pies, croissants, jam, Modica chocolate and other sweet dishes in addition to savoury things like local saucages, cheeses, omelettes, quiche, etc. etc. There is also yoghurt, muesli, fruit, coffee, cappucino, serval juices and anything you can think of that could be considered part of a breakfast anywhere in the world. All locally or homemade by Paolo and his family. Paolo is always available for advice on things to see or places to eat. This place is remote so you have to go everywhere by car (at least 10 min. driving to the nearest restaurants). You can reach Casa al Castello through a rough and sometime unpaved and unlit road. If you are afraid of driving in the dark, this place is not for you. The location allows for easy visits of Noto, Modica, Ragusa and even Syracuse. In short, one of the best accommodations I ever set foot in.
