My daughter booked a table for mothering Sunday for 4 people, about 1 hour before we were due to arrive, she received a call to cancel our booking due to being fully booked. The booking was done via quandoo who apparently had been told weeks ago not to take anymore bookings. All my daughter was told was they had more people to call to cancel their reservations, what a joke and lots of disappointed families on what should have been a special day. One very unhappy family. To add insult to injury an email was received about 2 hours after our non existent meal asking her to rate the meal.

I booked four rooms here for myself and my family night before my wedding. The positives: The building is beautiful and the bar was nice. It was helpful to have a lift to the third floor. Breakfast was OK. Unfortunately, the negatives outway the positives. My room was tired and tatty; blinds were dirty and torn, and the spa bath was broken. There were scuff marks everywhere, and it just looked generally unclean. I reported this to reception, but I simply received an apology. I booked this room (and paid £160) to relax the night before my wedding, but it was significantly disappointing. Upon check-in, I wasn't given any information about dinner, so I assumed I needed to eat elsewhere and, as I rushed to find somewhere, I couldn't check my room until late, so was stuck staying in the room the was below expectations. I live in Gosport, but unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend the hotel to stay in. The rest of the rooms (costing between (£89 and £111), were of a similar standard. Run-down, tired and scruffy. Some of them were tiny, and none of them had water in the room or any nice touches you'd usually expect in a hotel. To be honest, I would have been better off booking the local travel lodge. …

We stayed here for our wedding night and we’ve sadly been left disappointed with the standard of the room. The blinds in the bathroom were broken and torn at the bottom, we were left with about 10 sheets of toilet roll with no spare rolls (not very nice for female hygiene reasons), no glasses for us for a drink of water, no acknowledgement from staff that we were newly weds and no special touches in the room for the occasion. Maybe our standards were too high but at £155 a night we expected a little bit more.

There was not a thing which became too much trouble. Whatever we asked for they obliged and with a smile. Breakfast great and plenty of it and a good menu we had a corner room on the fist floor with double aspect over the lovely gardens which belong to the crescent on which the hotel stands. Lovely staff, comfortable bed and cosy room What more could we ask for?

My wife and I stayed at the Anglesey for a three night break, it's in a decent location and has some interesting history. All of the staff were absolutely great, helpful, pleasant and made us feel welcome. Our room (booked as a large double) wasn't what I was expecting, it felt like a bedsit. Situated over the kitchen, bar and rear staff entrance it wasn't overly quiet either. The room had a double and a single bed, which made it feel cramped, the bathroom was in a tired condition and needed updating in my opinion. The restaurant and bar were nice, breakfast very nice also. Bar food was OK, a little pricey compared to other places we ate at (for Example the Fighting Cocks Pub, just up the road). So, it was an OK stay. Would I book again, probably not.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry to hear that you did not find your room up to standard. Refurbishing our rooms is something we are gradually working on, but as you can imagine, especially this time of year it can be a slow process. The room you were allocated was indeed a large double, however during the summer months we have an extra bed in some of these rooms to accommodate more family bookings so we do apologize you found it a little cramped. Thank you for your kind comments with regards to our staff and breakfast, I will pass these on to our team. Kind Regards The Anglesey Hotel

Discovered hotel had cancelled booking the morning of day mother & daughter were due to stay. We were on day two of walking the Coast path between Southampton and Portsmouth, 15 mile section. We felt marooned and abandoned by this cancellation. We had no vehicle, we were two women on our own, we felt very vulnerable, it was very distressing.

Good location to stokes bay. We stayed in a family room, toiletries provided however it was clear they had been used by someone else previously as bottles were near enough empty and whilst it’s great they recycle the member of staff would have seen this when laying them out on the bed. Towels are very small. Unfortunately we didn’t get much sleep due to the poor quality mattresses. Curtains were so thin and no blinds. Lovely bar area and breakfast was nice, freshly cooked. Staff were helpful
