I wish I had read the feedback before booking this hotel. If you've already booked, do yourself a favour and cancel - the room was vile, smelt like someone had spent 20 years smoking 60 [-] a day in there and the shower didn't work. I'd be more prepared to accept it if it had been a cheap B&B but... more

Booked a last minute with Laterooms, this the only bonus that it was cheap. The George is in desperate need of a "lick of paint". We were allocated a room in what used to be the old stable block, it was damp and musty smelling. We too had the same problem with the towel radiator, it was dangerously hot, we... more

This is an old coaching inn, set in a very pretty village but my husband and I did not have a happy or comfortable stay. We had phoned about a month ahead to book a twin-bedded room for four nights, but on arrival had been allocated a fourposter. This was changed to a family suite (inter-communicating double-bedded room and twin-bedded,... more

We booked the room nearly a year ago and were extremely disappointed to be shown to a dull, stale and smokey room with tired and tatty furniture. The Manager when he eventually came gave the impression he did not care and did not have the time to help solve the problem and offered to spray the room 'in about ten... more

We have just returned from this pleasant hotel in a lovely sleepy village after a short stay (3 nights). Very welcoming and olde worlde charm. We asked for a quiet room with a view if posssible and initially were pleased to find that our good sized double room with large bathroom overlooked the Abbey at the front of this hotel.... more

I stayed here a couple of times due to work and I have to start by saying the staff are great. However the rooms are a lottery! They vary from four poster beds with the smallest portable TV with a hair dryer which couldn't blow foam off your coffee, to family rooms with the smallest portable TV! Cleanliness really lets... more

Picture the scene. There is a wedding. Its in Dorchester village itself. The choice of Hotels is limited to say the least. So my wonderful partner and I end up booked into The George. First impressions on arrival ? Mmmmm...Maybe if youre a huge fan of quaint looking old buildings, with low ceilings, squeaky floor boards and bad paint jobs,... more

We have just returned from our stay at the George Hotel, where me and my young family were made to feel very weclome by the new managers. Although they have only been there a short while the food, service and atmoshpere was excellent. The rooms have a charm of their own along with the surrounding area. Would highly recommend and... more

My husband and I stayed here last weekend. The room was small, dark, hair dryer did not work, nor did clock radio. There was not a single chair to sit on. The room was over the kitchen (even worse over the kitchen grill) and the temperature was unbelievable. It reminded me of sleeping in an Egyptian summer without air conditioning.... more

My second stay in the hotel. A change in management and chef was noticable. Food was tasteless and bland at best. Room was dirty and cleaned to a bare minimum. staff needed training in basic service skills. The picturesque building though was delightful and dorchester on thames on the whole was beautiful. Bring back the old chef and manager please.... more
