The George Inn offers quality Bed & Breakfast accommodation in 8 en suite letting rooms. Our food prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients as far as possible Our meals are traditional pub style aimed at those of 'a certain age', who are willing to try 'something new' provided they've heard of it! Food orders are taken lunchtimes and evenings, seven days a week (except Christmas Day when all the staff het a day off!). We can cater for parties up to 24 proved they pre-order(there are current menus on our web site). We are a Grade Two listed English Heritage Listed building as such don't provide many of the facilities offer by our younger competitors: no TV in the bar; no pool table; no darts and no fruit machine, just good interesting conversation. Our rooms are clean and tidy; en suite and individual in style. We do not allow any pets, sorry and children are tolerated, especially if they are well behaved!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popped in to use the toliet after a long trip as there was signs to say we could use the local facilities so we stopped off, came out the toliet door to a rude women with her arms crossed right outside in my personal space being very intimidating saying we can’t use the toilet and we need to ask first, repeatedly being rude and raised her voice, we said don’t worry we won’t be coming back due to how rude she was we then proceeded to leave like we was originally doing, she proceeded to close doors after us and shout at us shouting “look at you” shouting abuse at the two of us never known anyone be so rude ever before we would of happily brought a drink if we were greeted with a kind approach due to not realising as we were not from the area to thank her for letting us use the facility but due to the abuse and rudeness we wanted to leave as soon as possible, we thought the facilities were there to use, will never return to this place. Dated facilities would never recommend this place to anyone. Disgusted and such rude service.

This is the first time I have given a negative review in about 10 years of using TripAdvisor, and it really saddens me to do so, particularly due the circumstances. I had a booking for Dec 9th, unfortunately owing to a medical emergency, we had to cancel on the morning of the booking. I requested a cancellation via the booking.com app, and the cancellation request was declined by the hotelier, meaning my money would later be taken by booking.com which it was. I then called the hotelier direct and he kindly agreed to 'un-decline' the cancellation, but only if I confirmed the cancelation via the app, which I did. This would give him the opportunity to re-sell the room via the app. About a week later, the money was taken by booking.com, in line with their policy. I had many conversations with booking.com (via the app and with their (very helpful) customer service team) but they said that they could not assist, unless the hotelier agreed the refund; the refund would be actioned via an Extranet system that the Inn uses with booking.com. The hotelier has however done little/nothing, hence booking.com cannot help me. Which I respect. The policy is the policy. I get that 100%. I have called the hotelier several times since and he has agreed each time to facilitate the refund. He hasn't. Today, he reneged on our 'hand-shake' agreement, saying his three (!) hotels were falling on hard times, and put the phone down on me. Hey he. I do believe in karma however, so let's see. Our friends were able to stay that evening, and had a reasonable time (despite their room being above the live band, so not all bad I guess).

THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED. We had the best stay here when we got caught short with our car breaking down in the dark in a country lane. Landlords Paul & Anna could not have been more helpful, accommodating & kind. And interesting company to boot with their stories of overseas work & living. Everyone we came into contact with, whether chatting in the bar or the local mechanic ordering parts, was so very friendly and helpful. The rooms, food, drinks, proper pub atmosphere & historical environment all quickly turned what was initially a bit of a disaster, into a very enjoyable 28 hours!

I’ve been sat in the pub for a while. It’s a lovely place, however the service for the food was poor. My friend ordered some cheesy chips when the kitchen opened and we hadn’t received them in 30 minutes. In all honesty it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes to make them and that’s coming from someone who works in a kitchen as well. They shouldn’t be taking that long.

Good room (I think recently refurbished) in characterful building. Clean and comfortable, with plenty of space. Plenty of car parking. The inn is central in the village. In every other respect I was glad to be stayng there, but I was unlucky in the bathroom to my room. It was very difficult to take a shower because the refurbishment had put in a roll-top bath with the shower fixture on the taps on the bath, with nothing on the wall to put the showerhead into, so that I had to hold the showerhead in my hand. And there was no shower curtain, the water would go everywhere.

Called in on the off chance for lunch.Having ordered drinks proceeded to order something to eat: gammon egg and chips , lasagne and a cheese and pickle sandwich with chips. Firstly the chip.portions were negligible - about 6 each, the bread on the sandwich was standard sliced with a morsel of grated cheese and the gammon was straight from a packet of DIY steaks. All for the price of £10 per head. Wish we ate at Stourhead at least the provinence of the food would be good.

Visited the George Inn for a two night stay, as we were attending a friend's wedding. Paul greeted us with a warm friendly welcome and showed us to our room. The room as requested overlooking the clock tower. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. We had the famous tapas in the restaurant area, which we would recommend. Through out our stay the staff were extremely friendly and engaging. We would recommend without hesitation.

Booked the family room as a stop-off on the way to our family holiday in Cornwall and back. Ideally situated in a nice quiet town just off the A303. Lovely traditional British pub/inn, with a family run feel to it. Upon arrival we we're warmly welcomed and shown to our room. The room was clean and tidy, the beds were large and comfortable, and all the essentials were provided - towels, soap, shower gel, tea/coffee, kettle, etc... The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble - including sending us something important we left behind by mistake. Breakfast was included and very welcome in the morning. The pub has an old-world charm about it but even so, the room had a good sized flat screen television with Freeview channels and WiFi was available. Would happily stay again.

Very clean, spacious, well-equipped family room & large bathroom with a roll-top bath. The beds were very comfortable. There was a good choice at breakfast which was expertly cooked. The staff were lovely. Excellent.

One soft and one firm pillow each, lightweight yet warm duvet and comfortable mattress. Automatic light comes on when you enter bathroom - very handy for those who get up during the night! Our room was against main road but not one sound from outside was heard. Great night's sleep followed by a great full English breakfast.
