We drove from Dunoon across a wild area of Argyll along a single track road, to a tiny place near Kames where we caught a ferry for the short hop to Tarbert on Kintyre, and made straight for the quayside hotel, the Anchor, which I had booked. We even found a parking space in front of the hotel and walked... more

Hotel was nice with pleasent staff but I was awfully expensive. Had to wait ages for service as there was no recepetion. Room was basic and it was £50 a night and included tea, coffee, sugar, 2 bottles of Highland Spring water but there was no milk. Breakfast was small portions and the black pudding was not very nice. I... more

We were given the keys to a Nice bright room with adequate facilities, good bathroom and beds. The TV was a bit small and reception was very poor. The bedside window was a bit thin, although I liked the fact that it was a sliding one with a view of the hillside. The Walls were paper thin which was evident... more

Website and in-hotel info suggested a friendly, relaxing stay. In reality, room was poorly decorated, with cheap melamine furniture in poor condition. Whole place needs refurbished. Dinner was ok at best, not the culinary experience promised. Manager/owner stood leaning on the bar reading a newspaper most of the time. Saving grace was the two attentive Polish waiters. Breakfast was fine,... more

We found the Anchor on the internet, and booked by email without problem. We booked a double room overlooking the harbour (there can only be a couple, given the size of the place) and paid £80 including breakfast. The building is painted pink, so you can't miss it on arriving in Tarbert - which is a small fishing village. There's... more

This was the first time I had stayed here, but I've eaten here a few times before, and I knew the food was good. I was not disappointed this time - it's a short, interesting menu, supplemented by specials from the blackboard. The chef clearly knows what s/he is doing, and the food is well and promptly served. The ambience... more

We sail to Tarbert, loch fyne most weekends in the summer. The Anchor was bought by the present owners 3 years ago, but we only started eating there last year when we were treated to dinner there by friends who take a motor boat from largs to tarbert regularly. We had eaten at the anchor once before, under the previous... more
