The room at Casa Dona Hilda is actually across the courtyard from the main house, and the bedroom and en-suite are self-contained in their own building with a dining terrace. The room is kept spoptlessly clean by Chi-Chi, the indomitable hostess, and her daughter Mirabel.

There is a/c, but the gap under the door probably reduces its effectivess. As this casa is in Vinales town in the valley, beware of biting insects - we managed to kill a couple of mosquitos but I still woke up with a few more bites. Also, after the rain we had some uninvited visitors in our room - a few tiny frogs (2cm long) which jumped entertainingly from wall to floor.

The best thing about staying here was the food - a main meal for 8CUC each, which was very competitive and much tastier than what we had had in restaurants. Portions were also huge! more
