After a last minute change of plans we arrived in Motagu looking for a place to stay. We were made so welcome and our every need was immediately seen to. Our spacious room with modern bathroom was immaculate and stylishly furnished with lovely views over the large gardens and vines. The best part was the breakfast the next morning in... More

We found this place using trip advisor. The setting was spectacular and the breakfast in the morning was fantastic. The room was cozy and had a comforter to keep me warm at night. No fire till June though. I was a bit disappointed in that. They had wifi but it was pretty crappy. I could not do much of anything... More

This is a truly a top of the range place. We stayed in Room 7 and it was better than some 5 star hotels I've stayed in. Modern, well designed, air con, full DSTV, excellent bed and bathroom and first class breakfast. The room has a very nice stoep overlooking the olive trees. They clean your car as a matter... More

We stayed in Montagu vines for a family wedding two weeks ago. What a find! It is an oasis of calm, with the most beautiful scenery. Nestled in behind mountains, and with an olive grove, ornate plunge pool and exquisitely manicured gardens outside our bedroom window, we were reluctant to go too far during the day! Ursula and Campbell were... More

What a brilliant job the owners Ursula and Campbell have done here. We stayed in one of the rooms in the annexe built just a year or so ago, and the room would be hard to beat anywhere for comfort, style and amenities. What's more the room opens onto a private veranda with lovely views over a plantation of olive... More

Montagu Vines was the first stop on our 5 weeks trip to the Garden Route. What a wonderful first impression of South Africa. We stayed for 2 nights in one of the new rooms and it was spectacular. The shower alone was almost as big as my whole bathroom!! Ursula and Campbell are so friendly and caring. We had an... More

We went to Montagu for a wedding and were advised by locals we know to stay at the Vines. The owners Ursula and Campbell moved here over a year ago and have created an oasis of perfection nestled in among the mountains and valleys of Montagu. The room we stayed in had panoramic views of the olive grove and majestic... More

Booked the Montagu Vines for two nights last month but stayed for three nights as it was so perfect. There is simply nothing to criticise - the room was spacious, spotlesslessly clean and the view was to die for. Breakfast beautifully prepared and presented. Ursula could not have been more helpful and welcoming and the whole experience was absolutely perfect.... More

This is our third stay at Montagu Vines (twice with the previous owner - pre renovations) and we are delighted to say that it only seems to be getting better. The renovations (adding a number of guest rooms and a breakfast area where the new owners are now living in the "main" house) were done tastefully and in keeping with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Montagu Vines is situated in the historic conservation area of Montagu. The main farmhouse was built between 1900 and 1910 and reflects the early Victorian influenced Karoo style farmhouse of that period. The 6 Garden rooms and 3 Farm House Rooms overlook the newly planted Olive Grove and compliment the stately main house. Following the damage to the vines from the floods of November 2008 the vineyard was removed in 2010 and replanted with an olive grove. We offer our guests a taste of old- fashioned comfort and luxury in the town of Montagu on the world famous "Route 62". You can relax in the splash pool set in the tranquil gardens with magnificent old oak and milkwood trees. Alternatively, you could lounge on the lawns enjoying the glorious views of the surrounding mountains whilst sipping a glass of Chenin Blanc. Montagu Vines is just a stroll away from the centre of Montagu with its amenities that cater for all tastes and interests. There are restaurants, bistros, historic churches and tranquil gardens for the visitor to enjoy. Montagu Vines is the perfect place for those intimate weekends, birthdays, and anniversaries or as a stopover whilst discovering "Route 62" and all it has to offer. You may be lucky and see the "resident" owls perched in the old oak tree or meet one of the big tortoises in the vineyard that visit from the adjacent nature reserve. ... more   less
