Enjoyed a weeks stay at the Philoxenia. Don't expect luxury as the rooms are basic and in particular the shower was small but everything was immaculately clean and well looked after. The pool with jacuzzi was lovely and the bar next to the pool was perfect for sitting and enjoying a glass of the very nice local wine. The family running the hotel were friendly and polite and gave good service- they do appreciate it if you make an attempt at speaking some greek.
Only downside really was the breakfasts- same every day (hot drink, orange juice and toast)- not very interesting, however the service was good. Would maybe recommend self catering in one of the studios instead.
Santorini is a fantastic place for a holiday with a lot of sun, a good bit of history, picturesque scenery (particularly at Fira). Would recommend climbing up the hill behind the hotel up to Ancient Thera for a look- although worth checking opening times first as we tried three times and found it...
