If you are planning to dive off Sipadan or any of the other islands in the area but are trying to do it on a budget chances are you will need to stay in the port town of Semporna. Unfortunately as towns go it is a bit of a dump with most travellers staying down near the dive schools on the waterfront.

Lee's Resthouse is situated nearer the centre of town and seemed to offer far better value than the more popular hotels. We paid aroung 50-60 rupiah per night for a small but clean room with TV, air-con and en-suite bathroom. The restaurant attached to the hotel also serves up some tasty meals.

The staff were always welcoming and helpful. more
