My wife and I have just returned from Happy Cretan where we spent one week (August 2009). This was our 10th visit to Crete of which the last four was in Happy Cretan. The hotel is up on a hillside (breathtaking views over the sea from many of the rooms) over Agia Pelagia a small atmospheric village. Happy Cretan is... more

What an excellent, friendly and clean place to stay! We have stayed here several times and love the family run atmosphere of the Happy Cretan. The food is cooked fresh, and to a high standard, the accommodation is clean and the views spectacular! If you are in a high stress job as I am and need a quality break, you... more

We stayed at one of the small apartments nearest the pool and really enjoyed our stay. The view was magnificent and the pool was really gorgeous and in early September was quiet. We wondered why the restaurant was empty every night even though the food was great - because it was stupendously expensive. If you dont have a car you... more

The holiday got off to a rocky start when our flight to Heraklion was rerouted to Athens due to bad weather. We made it to the HC in the end though, and for most of the week were their only guests. The hotel is family owned, and brothers Demetiri and Antonio clearly take great pride in maintaining high standards. The... more

I spent 10 days at the Happy Cretan and returned home rested, recharged and happy as can be! I have spent a lot of time in the Greek Islands and, this time, found the premises so beautiful I barely left. Yes it is a bit remote but as you can see from the photo I took from the road at... more

Having read various reports on this seemingly fabulous hotel on this website we decided to stay there for two nights at the beginning of our short Crete trip. The reservation process already was a bit unorthodox, however all was well at the end. We arrived, all looked good, nice pool, nice gardens, friendly staff. So far so good. When we... more

We stayed here because it was only about 20 kms from Heraklion, we wanted to rent a car to go see Phaestos and Knossos, but hated to drive into Heraklion. It was very easy to get to from the main road, which is a plus. However, in the evenings we like to walk around and explore and that was impossible... more

Just spent 6 nights at the Happy Cretan and it is as lovely as it looks on its website. The pool area and grounds are beautiful and the staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help - they directed us to a deserted beach nearby which was fantastic. The best part of our stay however was... more

Simply put, a wonderful place to stay. Great views, excellent service from the staff. Breakfast was exceptional and the pool (open all night) was a great place to relax. Our only caution would be if you are planning on spending a lot of time in Heraklion or the surrounding area. Without a car, you are a bit isolated. There is... more

The last two days of our holiday in Crete we spent in hotel Happy Cretan. This hotel is highly recommendable. It was very quiet in the hotel at the time we were there and we enjoyed two fantastic days. That was due for a large part to the fantastic position of this hotel, the excellent kitchen and the personal attention... more
