End of the season, so everything was tired and sometimes damaged: the shower screen was broken, no plug in the basin, and the corridors looked worn. Bed was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was quite good. But Reception staff could not really have cared less. BUT the real problem is the noise: we were on the third floor, and there is a nightclub in the basement, from which the noise (really Hard Rock with heavily amplified bass) shook the building until 4am. Every night I rang down several times to reception to ask (very nicely) for it to be turned down, and it was only when I thrreatened to take it up with the owner (or part owner) the Mayor of Constanta direct that anything was done. But it was only about half an hour before it was as loud as ever. Sleep was imposoible for all of the people - all academics - in my party, on every night we were there, before 4 am. Never again. more
