We go to Shallowdale House Hotel 2-3 times a year and love it. Stayed here for a cosy weekend away with my partner. A bit off the beaten track but couldnt fault it. Food was lovely, rooms spotless and service good. Weather was freezing outside but this is the kind of place one wishes you could be snowed in for a week or so. more

Lovely place, food, hosts but you cant class it as been in York. This is probably the only drawback as we were coming to visit York. Next time we will stay inside of the city walls. more

My wife and I took a weekend break at Shallowdale, although we really enjoyed our stay it was like being a lodger in someones house, which I suppose the building is a house with guests at the end of the day as it only has 3 bedrooms. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the attention to detail second to none.... more

This small B&B is impeccable, if this is what England was like in the early 20th century we just wish we could travel back in time. Rooms gorgeous and the food scrumptious. The only drawback is that Ampleforth is so far from York itself. I guess in the fall and winter it could be pretty ---- bleak out there. more

We have stayed at Shallowdale House twice. We'd have stayed there many more times, but it is quite popular and stays fully booked. The meals there are tremendous. The service impeccable.
