We booked this not expecting much, but it was clean and quiet especially for a motel - but then, Hanmer Springs is not a mad town! Just on the edge of town, about a 10-15 min walk into the high street and to the springs, it's run by a very friendly couple who are very helpful and make you feel welcome. The rooms are standard Bella Vista, with a double bed with electric blanket, tv and kitchenette, and a bathroom with a blistering heater! All you need. We only stayed one night and have to say that the drive from Hanmer to Kaikoura is one of the most spectacular we've ever done, beautiful hilly countryside to feast your eyes on and enjoy. Hanmer itself is a nice alpine town with plenty of money judging from some of the lovely houses, and has an excellent view from the top of the hill of the main road. The springs - hmm, bit unsure about - great for the family, for the romantics not so great! The water felt good in terms of warmth, but if you go - take flip flops, and a dressing gown... more
