My wife and I are on a 4 day, hit the ground running break to Velden. Never been before, but we're old pro's when it comes to Austria, so this should be easy, even though we're entering Austrian tourist paradise as most Brits only get as far as Klagenfurt (so we're told!).

Hotel Kirchenwirt, 94 euros per night B & B, and their website says they speak English; I speak a little German, so between the two we should get on ok!

We arrive, introduce ourselves, exchange very few words and are given a key and showed to our room, by I assume, the owner. First impressions says she speaks very little English. Our room is very small and no balcony, though their website says there is one. Hmm! The safe doesn't work, or it might, but there's no instructions. Hmm! At least the mini-bar doubles as a fridge! Mmm!

What time's breakfast? We weren't told, so I asked. The owner (?) wrote it down. Breakfast was the usual Austrian type, and I have to admit very good... more
